2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General

3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals who have

4 | | served our country and, in doing so, have made the ultimate
|
5 | | sacrifice for our nation; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Ronald E. Powers was born on June 12, 1948 and was |
7 | | raised in Macoupin County; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Powers joined the United States Army and |
9 | | served as a
Private First Class with the 9th Infantry |
10 | | Division, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry, Combat Support |
11 | | Company; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, PFC Powers began his tour of duty in South |
13 | | Vietnam on September 5, 1968; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, On October 4, 1968, PFC Powers was killed in |
15 | | action while serving in the Dinh Tuong Province
in South |
16 | | Vietnam; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, PFC Powers was awarded the Purple Heart, the |
18 | | Bronze Star, the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service |
19 | | Medal,
and the Vietnam Campaign Medal; his name can be found on |
20 | | the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
on Panel 41w, line 7; therefore, |
