Amends the Vital Records Act. Provides that preparation of a certificate of stillbirth is required after a fetal death that occurs in this State after a gestation period of at least 20 (rather than 26) completed weeks.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Vital Records Act is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 20.5 as follows:
|
6 | | (410 ILCS 535/20.5)
|
7 | | Sec. 20.5. Certificate of stillbirth.
|
8 | | (a) The State Registrar shall prescribe and distribute a |
9 | | form for a
certificate of stillbirth. The certificate shall be |
10 | | in the
same format as a certificate of live birth prepared |
11 | | under Section 12 and shall
be filed in the same manner as a |
12 | | certificate of live birth.
|
13 | | (b) After each fetal death that occurs in this State after |
14 | | a gestation
period of at least 20 26 completed weeks, the |
15 | | person who files a fetal death
certificate in connection with |
16 | | that death as required under Section 20 shall,
only upon |
17 | | request by the woman who delivered the stillborn fetus,
also |
18 | | prepare a certificate of
stillbirth. The person shall
prepare |
19 | | the certificate on the form prescribed and furnished by the |
20 | | State
Registrar and in accordance with the rules adopted by |
21 | | the State Registrar.

22 | | (c) If the stillborn's parent or parents do not wish to |
23 | | provide a name
for the stillborn, the person who prepares the |
