Creates the Tenants' Freedom From Compulsory Signage Act. Restricts a landlord from compelling a tenant to display any sign, flag, or other paraphernalia in or on the tenant's residential area. Allows a court to award equitable relief for a violation of the Act.

1 | | AN ACT concerning civil law.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
5 | | Tenants' Freedom From Compulsory Signage Act. |
6 | | Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act: |
7 | | "Flag" means any fabric intended to convey a message. |
8 | | "Landlord" means any owner, lessor, or landlord, or legal |
9 | | representative or agent of an owner, lessor, or landlord, or a |
10 | | housing authority or a housing subsidy program administrator, |
11 | | or agent of a housing authority or a housing subsidy program |
12 | | administrator. |
13 | | "Paraphernalia" means any item intended to convey a |
14 | | message. |
15 | | "Residential area" means the private area or rooms in |
16 | | which the tenant resides, excluding any common or public |
17 | | spaces. |
18 | | "Sign" means any image intended to convey a message. |
19 | | "Tenant" means any tenant, lessee, or occupant of any |
20 | | building, any apartment in a building, any dwelling unit, any |
21 | | trailer or mobile manufactured home, or any land upon which a |
22 | | trailer or mobile manufactured home is used or stands. |
