Amends the Illinois Procurement Code. Provides that the Department of Central Management Services, in consultation with the Chief Procurement Officer, shall implement and develop a program to establish a State prescription generic drug label for the purpose of increasing competition in the generic drug market and lowering generic drug prices for all purchasers. Provides that the Department shall contract with one or more generic drug manufacturers to manufacture certain generic drugs on behalf of the State and participating entities. Provides for the adoption of rules.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Procurement Code is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 25-210 as follows: |
6 | | (30 ILCS 500/25-210 new) |
7 | | Sec. 25-210. Generic prescription drug contracting. The |
8 | | Department of Central Management Services, in consultation |
9 | | with the Chief Procurement Officer, shall implement and |
10 | | develop a program to establish a State prescription generic |
11 | | drug label for the purpose of increasing competition in the |
12 | | generic drug market and lowering generic drug prices for all |
13 | | purchasers. The Department shall contract with one or more |
14 | | generic drug manufacturers to manufacture certain generic |
15 | | drugs on behalf of the State and participating entities. The |
16 | | Department shall adopt rules necessary to implement and |
17 | | administer the program created under this Section.
