HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor our esteemed former colleague,
4Representative John D'Amico, for serving as a member of the
5Illinois General Assembly for nearly 17 years and to thank him
6for his dedication to our State and his community; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico was born in Chicago; he graduated
8from St. Edward Elementary School and Weber High School in
9Chicago before attending Northeastern Illinois University; he
10joined the Chicago Water Department in 1982, and he currently
11serves as assistant superintendent; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico was first elected as a state
13representative in 2004 and served on several committees,
14including Aging, Appropriations–Public Safety, Labor,
15Elections & Campaign Reform, Electric Utility Oversight,
16Transportation & Motor Vehicles, Workers' Compensation and
17Unemployment, and the Committee of the Whole; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico remained committed to one of his top
19priorities while serving as the chairman of the
20Transportation: Vehicles & Safety Committee, driving safety
21for all Illinoisans; during his tenure, he was influential in
22passing several pieces of legislation that keep citizens safe

1every day, including legislation that created a graduated
2driver's license program for teens; additionally he passed
3legislation that required minors to complete a minimum of 50
4practice hours behind the wheel in order to receive their
5driver's license and legislation that allowed the parents
6and/or guardians of minors to view a teenager's driving record
7online in an effort to keep our children safer on the roads; he
8also passed legislation to restrict cell phone use by teens
9while driving, to ban cell phone use in all school and
10construction zones, and to ban texting while driving; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rep. D'Amico is also a member of the Edgebrook
12Community Association, the St. Edwards Athletic Advisory
13Committee, the City Club of Chicago, the Mayfair Lions Club,
14the Queen of All Saints Men's Club, and the Edgebrook
15Sauganash Athletic Association; and
 
16    WHEREAS, All who had the honor to serve with Rep. D'Amico
17will miss his friendship, kindness, professionalism,
18sincerity, and unwavering commitment to his community, the
19State of Illinois, and, most of all, his family, including his
20wife, Christine, and his three children; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
22HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23we congratulate and thank Representative John D'Amico for his

3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
