2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to thank State Representative Sandra | ||||||
4 | "Sandy" Hamilton on her service to the 99th District and the | ||||||
5 | people of Illinois; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton was born in Downers Grove to | ||||||
7 | Charles and Joan Scholtens on December 31, 1966, and her | ||||||
8 | parents instilled in her the values of community volunteering, | ||||||
9 | philanthropy, and promoting community growth; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton met her husband, Bob, while | ||||||
11 | attending the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, | ||||||
12 | where she received her degree and represented the university | ||||||
13 | as a member of its championship volleyball team; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton and her husband are the proud | ||||||
15 | parents of Charlie, Will, and Jake; she and Bob have lived in | ||||||
16 | Springfield for more than 20 years; her professional | ||||||
17 | experience includes being a real estate broker with Remax | ||||||
18 | Professionals, Inc., specializing in residential and | ||||||
19 | commercial real estate; she is also a small business owner, | ||||||
20 | co-owning local storage units; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton was sworn in on December 30, 2021 |

1 | to fill the vacancy of retiring Rep. Mike Murphy in the 99th | ||||||
2 | District; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, During her time in the General Assembly, Rep. | ||||||
4 | Hamilton advanced key legislation to protect state workers in | ||||||
5 | the Child Protective Services Division of the Illinois | ||||||
6 | Department of Children and Family Services, and she has | ||||||
7 | sponsored 12 and co-sponsored another 36 pieces of legislation | ||||||
8 | during her short time in the 102nd General Assembly; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, All of Rep. Hamilton's resolutions passed, | ||||||
10 | including the Gold Star Spouses Day declaration and those | ||||||
11 | honoring the lives and good works of Springfield volunteer and | ||||||
12 | realtor Ron Ladley, mental health advocate and motivational | ||||||
13 | speaker Kay McGuire, Springfield Coach Ken Leonard, the Sacred | ||||||
14 | Heart-Griffin football champions, and the Sacred Heart-Griffin | ||||||
15 | basketball champions; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton was the chief co-sponsor of the | ||||||
17 | legislation to create the Parking Tax Exemption for the | ||||||
18 | Illinois State Fair and DuQuoin State Fair, co-sponsor of the | ||||||
19 | new law for enhanced background checks on people who directly | ||||||
20 | work with children to help identify sexual abuse cases, and | ||||||
21 | co-sponsor of the new law to create the Money Laundering in | ||||||
22 | Real Estate Task Force to investigate the cash flows and money | ||||||
23 | laundering in the real estate industry and the Illinois |

1 | economy; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Prior to her selection to the House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives, Rep. Hamilton was on the board of directors | ||||||
4 | and finance committee and was an executive board member with | ||||||
5 | Capital Area Realtors (CAR); she has been on the Awards | ||||||
6 | Selection Task Force and is a current member of the Commercial | ||||||
7 | Real Estate Network (CREN), where she served as president; she | ||||||
8 | received the Community Service Award from her peers at CAR; | ||||||
9 | she was also appointed to the Economic and Community | ||||||
10 | Development Commission (EDC) starting in 2019; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Rep. Hamilton has been a | ||||||
12 | volleyball coach, helping young women across central Illinois | ||||||
13 | at the high school level and at Parkland Junior College, where | ||||||
14 | the team won the national championship; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton earned a bachelor's degree from the | ||||||
16 | University of Illinois-Champaign, where she played volleyball | ||||||
17 | on a full-ride athletic scholarship; her team won three Big | ||||||
18 | Ten Championships and also was a Final Four participant her | ||||||
19 | junior and senior year; in her senior year at Illinois, she | ||||||
20 | received the Coaches Award, which was then renamed the Sandy | ||||||
21 | Scholtens Award and given to the athlete who embodies work | ||||||
22 | ethic, attitude, and team work; and

1 | WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton plans to continue her community | ||||||
2 | service and involvement as a volunteer volleyball coach and | ||||||
3 | booster for Sacred Heart-Griffin High School; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
5 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we thank State Representative Sandra "Sandy" Hamilton on her | ||||||
7 | service to the 99th District and the people of Illinois and | ||||||
8 | wish her well in her continued public service; and be it | ||||||
9 | further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to Rep. Hamilton as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
