2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to thank our colleague Representative Tim |
4 | | Butler for his distinguished service to the people of the |
5 | | State of Illinois; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Butler represented the people of the 87th |
7 | | District, consisting of Logan, Menard, Sangamon, and Tazewell |
8 | | counties, since 2015, bringing to the House more than 20 years |
9 | | of work in public service for the people of Central Illinois; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, A native of Peoria who is proud to have been born |
12 | | and raised in central Illinois, Rep. Butler is the youngest of |
13 | | seven children and is the fourth-great grandson of Lewis |
14 | | Barker, a state senator from Pope County who served during the |
15 | | first four Illinois General Assemblies; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Political |
17 | | Science from Eastern Illinois University in 1990, Rep. Butler |
18 | | began his career in public service, ultimately serving as |
19 | | district chief of staff to former Congressmen Ray LaHood and |
20 | | Rodney Davis; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Butler has been an active community |

1 | | volunteer for many years, including service on the boards of |
2 | | Downtown Springfield, Inc., the Dirksen Congressional Center, |
3 | | and the Springfield Road Runners Club; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Butler is a graduate of the Peoria Chamber |
5 | | of Commerce's Community Leadership School; he was in Peoria's |
6 | | 1998 class of Forty Leaders Under 40 and was the 2007 recipient |
7 | | of the Rod Steele National Volunteer of the Year award from the |
8 | | Road Runners Club of America; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Butler's passion for service to Illinois and |
10 | | for our State's rich history helped him rise to the position of |
11 | | Assistant House Republican Leader as well to become a leading |
12 | | advocate for issues regarding transportation, tourism, and |
13 | | enhancing the economic benefits of our State's history and |
14 | | culture; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Through his bipartisan work, Rep. Butler was a |
16 | | leader in advancing improvements to Scott's Law to improve |
17 | | public safety on Illinois' roadways; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Butler's dedication to our institutions and |
19 | | history led to many pieces of legislation, including the |
20 | | recognition of Illinois Statehood Day, which led to him being |
21 | | selected as co-chair of the Illinois Bicentennial Commission; |

1 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of his service, Rep. Butler has |
2 | | twice been named a Friend of Agriculture by Illinois Farm |
3 | | Bureau ACTIVATOR; he is a recipient of the Illinois Chamber of |
4 | | Commerce Champion of Free Enterprise Award and has twice been |
5 | | awarded the Guardian of Small Business Award from the National |
6 | | Federation of Independent Business; he was the 2019 recipient |
7 | | of the Illinois Association of Park Districts Outstanding |
8 | | Legislative Leadership Award; he received the 2018 |
9 | | Environmental Leadership Award from the Illinois Environmental |
10 | | Council and has been named Policymaker of the Year by the |
11 | | Illinois Association of Museums; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Rep. Butler has also chaired or co-chaired |
13 | | several legislative caucuses, including the Emergency |
14 | | Management Caucus, the Diabetes Caucus, the Outdoor Caucus, |
15 | | and the Route 66 Caucus; therefore, be it

16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
17 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
18 | | we thank Representative Tim Butler for his dedicated service |
19 | | to the residents of the 87th District and the people of the |
20 | | State of Illinois, and we wish him and his wife, Wendy, all the |
21 | | best as he begins the next chapter of his life; and be it |
