HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague,
4Representative LaToya Greenwood, on her more than five years
5as a member of the Illinois General Assembly and thank her for
6her dedicated service to her State and her community; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rep. Greenwood was born and raised in East St.
8Louis, where she still resides and is a mother of one son,
9Nicolas, who attends Loyola University; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Greenwood earned her bachelor's degree in
11Criminal Justice from Michigan State University; she furthered
12her education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville,
13where she received her master's degree in Public
14Administration and Policy; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Rep. Greenwood is a proud member of the Alpha
16Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the oldest African American Greek
17letter organization for college educated women who have
18committed themselves to helping the lives of citizens in their
19local communities and around the world through education,
20health, finances, art and culture, and global service; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Rep. Greenwood's passion and devotion to her

1community inspired her to return to East. St. Louis after
2college to make a difference as a public servant, and she
3served as a councilwoman of the City of East St. Louis before
4running for state representative; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Greenwood has been a passionate advocate for
6the residents of the Metro East area by supporting bills
7addressing issues of concern for her constituents, including
8social justice, equity and opportunity, job creation, economic
9growth, education funding, and improving wages for working
10families; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Rep. Greenwood served as chairwoman of the Health
12Care Availability & Access Committee and championed landmark
13legislation focusing on reproductive rights, maternal and
14infant mortality, and access to quality and affordable health
15care; she also served as the vice-chairwoman of the
16Agriculture & Conservation Committee; and
 
17    WHEREAS, After the tragic deaths of George Floyd and other
18members of the Black community, Rep. Greenwood and the
19Illinois Legislative Black Caucus worked to dismantle systemic
20racism in the State by passing long overdue reform in criminal
21justice, education and workforce development, economic access,
22equity and opportunity, and health care and human services;

1    WHEREAS, With a continued focus on improving health care
2availability and access, Rep. Greenwood was integral in the
3passage of the historic Black Caucus Health Care and Human
4Services Pillar, which created equity-driven health care
5reform legislation that addressed the black maternal mortality
6crisis in Illinois by requiring implicit bias training for
7hospital staff and ensuring perinatal doula services and
8evidence-based home visiting services be covered under the
9medical assistance program for persons who are otherwise
10eligible for medical assistance; and
 
11    WHEREAS, In the 102nd General Assembly, Rep. Greenwood was
12appointed to the leadership position of Majority Conference
13Chair by Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch in recognition of her
14leadership, strong bipartisan relationships, and track record
15of advancing legislation that uplifts women and disadvantaged
16communities; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Always mindful of the disadvantaged within her
18community, Rep. Greenwood hosted multiple charitable drives
19through her district office to provide clothing, food, hygiene
20products, and other essential items to those in need and
21hosted community shred days, job fairs, and community safety
22events; and

1    WHEREAS, Rep. Greenwood has been recognized by several
2advocacy organizations for her legislative initiatives,
3including being named the 2022 Community Health Center
4Champion Award by the Illinois Primary Health Care Association
5for her leadership in creating equity and access to quality
6health care for all Illinoisans; she has also been recognized
7as a friend of agriculture; and
 
8    WHEREAS, All who had the honor to serve alongside Rep.
9Greenwood will miss her bright attitude, warm friendship, and
10unwavering commitment to bringing people together for the
11betterment of our State; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate Representative LaToya Greenwood on her
15achievements and thank her for her years of dedicated service
16to the State of Illinois and her community; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Rep. Greenwood as an expression of our respect
19and esteem.
