2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Donald |
4 | | Leonard "Don" Grubaugh of Ottawa, who passed away on November |
5 | | 25, 2022; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was born to George and Lillian |
7 | | (Philhower) Grubaugh in Ottawa on March 26, 1941; he attended |
8 | | Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Ottawa Township |
9 | | High School, where he played the trombone and tuba and |
10 | | participated in track; he earned his Certificate in Banking |
11 | | from the University of Wisconsin at Madison; he married |
12 | | Eustachia "Diane" Knoedler at the First Presbyterian Church in |
13 | | Grand Ridge on October 5, 1963, and she preceded him in death |
14 | | on May 3, 2015; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was drafted into the U.S. Army |
16 | | during Vietnam, where he was assigned to D Company, 52nd |
17 | | Infantry Regiment at Bien Hoa and Long Binh from March 1967 to |
18 | | March 1968; he was wounded in an explosion during the Tet |
19 | | Offensive on January 31, 1968, earning the Bronze Star for |
20 | | bravery and other service medals; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh had a 39-year career at First |
22 | | National Bank of Ottawa, working his way from bank teller just |

|
1 | | after high school to vice president; he enjoyed helping people |
2 | | purchase homes and invest in the community; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was an avid and very skilled golfer; |
4 | | over the course of every summer for 45 years, he served as a |
5 | | logistics/radio volunteer for the PGA World Series of Golf and |
6 | | World Golf Championship Tournaments held at Firestone Country |
7 | | Club in Akron, Ohio; for his contributions, he was awarded the |
8 | | David H. Franklin Volunteer Award in 2016; he also cherished |
9 | | Pine Hills Golf Course in Ottawa; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh volunteered with many community and |
11 | | service organizations, including Elks Lodge #588, Community |
12 | | Hospital of Ottawa/OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center ER, the |
13 | | Reddick Library Board, AMBUCS, the Jaycees, Camp Tuckabatchee, |
14 | | Camp Fire Board, the Civil Defense, and the River Rescue |
15 | | Squad; he also served a Little League coach; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was a lifelong member of First |
17 | | United Methodist Church; he was active with a variety of |
18 | | military veterans groups, including the American Legion, VFW, |
19 | | and the LaSalle County Veterans Home; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh never met a stranger, and he enjoyed |
21 | | a good steak and a good joke; he loved jazz, dancing, model |
22 | | trains, fishing, and his family; he especially loved being a |

1 | | grandfather and attending all of his grandchildren's school |
2 | | functions, sporting events, dance productions, and other |
3 | | activities; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh was preceded in death by his |
5 | | parents; his wife of 51 years; his sisters, Pauline Klein, |
6 | | Cecilia Carter, and Genevieve Hall; and his brother, George |
7 | | Grubaugh; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Don Grubaugh is survived by his children, Don |
9 | | Grubaugh, Dawn (Doug) Tedrick, and Elizabeth (Tim) Drea; his |
10 | | grandchildren, Jacob and Piper Grubaugh, Cameron and Kyle |
11 | | Tedrick, and Andrew, Bridget, Lillian, and Jack Drea; his |
12 | | companion, Diane McCurdy; and his many nieces and nephews; |
13 | | therefore, be it

14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
15 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
16 | | we mourn the passing of
Donald Leonard "Don" Grubaugh and |
17 | | extend our sincere
condolences to his family, friends, and all |
18 | | who knew and loved
him; and be it further

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
|
20 | | presented to the family of Don Grubaugh as an expression of

21 | | deepest sympathy.
