HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate St. John's Evangelical
4Lutheran Church of Bloomington on the occasion of its 150th
5anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In August 1872, Swedish immigrants moved to
7Bloomington to work in the coal mines; and
 
8    WHEREAS, At the invitation of the Swedish immigrant
9families, Dr. T. N. Hasselquist, a professor at Augustana
10College, assisted in the official formation of what was then
11called the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bloomington
12on December 8, 1872; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In the years that followed, the small band of
14Christians grew alongside the impact of their ministry to the
15Bloomington-Normal area and the world; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Today, the church is known as St. John's
17Evangelical Lutheran Church; and
 
18    WHEREAS, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church celebrates
19its rich 150-year history as it seeks to continue blessing
20others by living its values to worship, love, give, and grow as

1a community of believers; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we congratulate St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of
5Bloomington on its 150 years, and we wish the church continued
6success; and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church as an
9expression of our esteem and respect.
