| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Ellen Brown Dixon on the |
| 4 | | occasion of her 102nd birthday on November 18, 2022; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Dixon was born in Canton, Mississippi on |
| 6 | | November 18, 1920; she moved to West Memphis, Arkansas in |
| 7 | | 1937; she graduated from Central High School in Helena, |
| 8 | | Arkansas; she moved to Chicago in 1940; she then moved to |
| 9 | | Roseland in 1960, where she has been living for the past 62 |
| 10 | | years; she married Earnest Dixon, and they were together for |
| 11 | | 27 years until his passing in October 2020; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Dixon first worked as a factory worker |
| 13 | | building televisions at Zenith Electronics; she began a new |
| 14 | | career with the Beverly Bank of Chicago, where she worked |
| 15 | | until her retirement in 1983; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Dixon has given back to her community |
| 17 | | through helping those in need by outreach and through local |
| 18 | | churches; she previously volunteered for programs and |
| 19 | | fundraisers and cooked, baked, and served wherever she was |
| 20 | | needed on her block and within her community; she also served |
| 21 | | as a mother to many children in the community; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Dixon formerly belonged to a group called |
| 2 | | the Ten Friendly Ladies, and they would get together to have |
| 3 | | monthly luncheons or to enjoy fun activities; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Dixon first voted in 1940, and she enjoys |
| 5 | | voting for her favorite candidates every election; she also |
| 6 | | enjoys playing bid whist and entertaining family and friends; |
| 7 | | and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Dixon is committed to her faith, believing |
| 9 | | it necessary to continue living a long life; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ellen Dixon is the mother of two sons, the late |
| 11 | | J.D. "Smitty" (Anni) Smith, who passed away in October 2020, |
| 12 | | and David Sigman; she is close to her extended family, |
| 13 | | including her niece, Julia Banks, her nephew, Willis Mondy, |
| 14 | | her great-great-nephew, Marquaris Mondy, and her best friend |
| 15 | | and cousin, Dora Branson; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 17 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we congratulate Ellen Brown Dixon on her 102nd birthday on |
| 19 | | November 18, 2022, and we wish her many more wonderful years; |
| 20 | | and be it further
