HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Ken Leonard on the 
4occasion of his retirement as head coach of the  Sacred 
5Heart-Griffin (SHG) High School football team, the Cyclones, 
6at the end of the 2022 season; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Coach Leonard has been coaching football since 
81980; over his 42 seasons as a football coach, he has achieved 
9an overall record of 419-81; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Coach Leonard has served as head coach of the SHG 
11Cyclones in Springfield since 1984; while coaching at SHG, he 
12has achieved an overall record of 387-72; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, During his tenure, Coach Leonard has led his team 
14to 11 state championships, achieving victories in 2005, 2006, 
152008, 2013, 2014, and 2022; he has also led his team to four 
16additional title-game appearances; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, In his last season, Coach Leonard successfully 
18led his team to the state championship game one more time; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Outside his work on the field, Coach Leonard 
20served as the athletic director of SHG; and

1    WHEREAS, Coach Leonard, known affectionately as "Mr. SHG", 
2will retire as the all-time winningest football coach in 
3Illinois High School Association history; therefore, be it
  
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
5HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
6we congratulate Ken Leonard on his retirement as head coach of 
7the Sacred Heart-Griffin (SHG) High School football team, the 
8Cyclones, recognize his years of service and dedication to the 
9team, and wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it

11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
12presented to Ken Leonard as an expression of our esteem and 
13respect.
