2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the 2021-2022 North Clay |
4 | | High School boys baseball team, the Cardinals, on the occasion |
5 | | of winning the 2022 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) |
6 | | Class 1A State Baseball Championship; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, The Cardinals achieved the ultimate goal by |
8 | | defeating the Brown County Hornets in the state championship |
9 | | game at Dozier Park in Peoria on June 4, 2022, with a score of |
10 | | 12 to 4; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, The Cardinals won North Clay High School's first |
12 | | ever state championship, setting a school record for most wins |
13 | | with 33 and outscoring their opponents 419 to 120, thereby |
14 | | becoming the first team in school history to qualify for the |
15 | | state tournament and the first team in Clay County history as |
16 | | well; previously, the 2015-16 team had advanced to the Super |
17 | | Sectional, which was the longest post-season run in school |
18 | | history, losing to the eventual state champion Goreville; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, The Cardinals defeated Cisne 11 to 0 and Farina |
20 | | South Central 5 to 1 to win the Louisville (North Clay) |
21 | | Regional; the team defeated Okaw Valley 13 to 3 and |
22 | | Windsor/Stewardson Strasburg 3 to 2 to win the Effingham (St. |

1 | | Anthony) Sectional; the team additionally defeated Steelville |
2 | | 8 to 3 to win the Carbondale (SIU) Super-Sectional; and

3 | | WHEREAS, The Cardinals compiled a record of 26 wins and 1 |
4 | | loss in the fall and 33 wins and 6 losses this spring; the team |
5 | | had a National Trail Conference record of 8 wins and 0 losses |
6 | | and won the NTC Championship over Windsor/Stewardson Strasburg |
7 | | 11 to 3; and

8 | | WHEREAS, The Cardinals won the Wooden Bat Tournament at |
9 | | Teutopolis by defeating St. Anthony 4 to 2 and Teutopolis 13 to |
10 | | 12; the team also won the Cardinal Classic in Louisville by |
11 | | defeating Neoga 14 to 1 and Teutopolis 6 to 4; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The Cardinals were led by Head Coach John Frech, |
13 | | Assistant Coach Hunter Clifton, Athletic Trainer Cassandra |
14 | | Kohlhause, Batboy Eastyn Frech, and Athletic Director Rich |
15 | | Grubaugh; and

16 | | WHEREAS, The 2021-2022 Cardinals were Evan Clifton, Logan |
17 | | Fleener, Layton Dawkins, Collyn Ballard, Miguel Blazquez, |
18 | | Jacob Hoyt, Bryton Griffy, Ayden Jones, Landon Frye, Gavin |
19 | | Hosselton, Donnie Zimmerman, Daniel Warren, Alex Boose, Keegan |
20 | | Sullens, Holden Clifton, Dakota Weidner, Carson Burkett, Jesse |
21 | | Weidner, Brady Ingram, and Matt Sullens; and

1 | | WHEREAS, The achievements of the North Clay High School |
2 | | boys baseball team players have continued; Donnie Zimmerman |
3 | | was selected for the 1A All-State First Team, named the NTC |
4 | | Conference MVP, and signed to play for Kaskaskia College; |
5 | | Holden Clifton, Collyn Ballard, Carson Burkett, and Brady |
6 | | Ingram were named NTC All-Conference selections; Holden |
7 | | Clifton and Bryton Griffy have signed to play with Vincennes |
8 | | University; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, The Cardinals are an amazing group of kids who |
10 | | have played together since they were in tee ball, with their |
11 | | team slogan being "10 years in the making"; therefore, be it
|
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
13 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
14 | | we congratulate the 2021-2022 North Clay High School boys |
15 | | baseball team, the Cardinals, on winning the 2022 IHSA Class |
16 | | 1A State Championship; and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the Cardinals, the coaches, North Clay Unit #25 |
19 | | Superintendent Travis Wyatt, and North Clay High School |
20 | | Principal Keith Price as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
