2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate and recognize Gloria Anne |
4 | | Dallagiacomo Murawksa on her 90th birthday; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa was born on New Year's Eve in |
6 | | 1932 in the small coal mining town of Clinton, Indiana; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa was the middle child of three |
8 | | with her older brother Robert and younger brother Richard; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Ten years later, Gloria Murawksa and her family |
10 | | moved to Taylor Street in Chicago, where she graduated from |
11 | | Harrison High School in 1950; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa then attended Northern Illinois |
13 | | University for her bachelor's degree in History Education and |
14 | | subsequently received her master's degree in History from |
15 | | DePaul University; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa began her teaching career at |
17 | | Elmwood Park High School in 1955 as part of the first class of |
18 | | teachers hired at the newly opened school; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa taught history, government, and |
|

1 | | work study classes at the school for 40 years and served as the |
2 | | faculty sponsor of the school yearbook; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa married fellow Elmwood Park High |
4 | | School teacher James F. Murawksa in 1964, and they |
5 | | subsequently had two children, Lisa and Jim; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Following the death of her husband in 1970, |
7 | | Gloria Murawksa raised her children and was an actively |
8 | | involved parent; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa led her daughter's Campfire Girls |
10 | | Troupe, joined the Rhodes Elementary School PTA, and was |
11 | | always the loudest voice in the stands at almost every |
12 | | football game for her son; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa is the grandmother to Anthony, |
14 | | James, Leah, and Ryan; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa continues her involvement by |
16 | | keeping in touch with a group of mothers from the PTA who call |
17 | | themselves "The Rhodes Scholars" as well as bringing energy |
18 | | and spirit to her grandsons' football games; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa was first elected to the Leyden |
20 | | High School Board of Education in August of 1986,; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa retired from teaching in 1994 but |
2 | | remains active in the community and has served as vice |
3 | | president on the Board of Education since May 10th, 2007; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa brings a multidimensional |
5 | | perspective to the Board of Education, as a parent, a teacher, |
6 | | a taxpayer, and a historian; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Gloria Murawksa is one of only 47 school board |
8 | | members in the entire state who have served more than 25 years |
9 | | on their respective school boards; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, A steadfast supporter of students, Gloria |
11 | | Murawksa has always been committed to "what's best for the |
12 | | kids," and the Leyden High School Board and 20th District |
13 | | community have been immeasurably fortunate to have Gloria as a |
14 | | member of the community; therefore, be it
|
15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
16 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
17 | | we congratulate Gloria Anne Dallagiacomo Murawksa on her 90th |
18 | | birthday and recognize this joyful celebration; and be it |
19 | | further
