2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Sheriff Jon Sandage on |
4 | | the occasion of his retirement as Sheriff of McLean County; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Prior to his law enforcement career, Sheriff |
7 | | Sandage earned his Associate of Applied Science in Law |
8 | | Enforcement and his Bachelor of Science in Advanced Technical |
9 | | Studies from Southern Illinois University; he later completed |
10 | | all training and examinations required to earn his |
11 | | certification as a traffic crash reconstructionist in 2003 and |
12 | | graduated from the National FBI Academy in 2012, where he |
13 | | received his Criminal Justice Education Certificate from the |
14 | | University of Virginia; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage started his career as a deputy |
16 | | sheriff with the McLean County Sheriff's Office on July 15, |
17 | | 1991; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was assigned as an inspector to |
19 | | the Illinois State Police Drug Task Force in January 1997, |
20 | | where he worked undercover to investigate the sale, |
21 | | manufacturing, and distribution of illegal drugs; and
|
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was promoted to the rank of |
2 | | sergeant in December 1998 and assigned to the Patrol Division, |
3 | | where he served as a field supervisor and watch commander; he |
4 | | was reassigned as the supervisor in charge of the Law and |
5 | | Justice Center security in 2008; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was promoted to lieutenant in |
7 | | 2009 and assumed command of the Patrol Division; he took |
8 | | command of the Criminal Investigation Division in 2011; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage was sworn in as the 46th Sheriff |
10 | | of McLean County on December 1, 2014, serving two consecutive |
11 | | terms until his retirement on November 30, 2022; during his |
12 | | tenure, he oversaw many of complexities associated with the |
13 | | operational needs of the organization while simultaneously |
14 | | facing the challenges of the construction and opening of the |
15 | | jail expansion and the global COVID-19 pandemic; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Sandage is a decorated peace officer and |
17 | | has received multiple awards during his career, including a |
18 | | Meritorious Services Citation, 10 Commendation Citations, a |
19 | | Good Conduct Citation, an Education Citation with Silver Star, |
20 | | a National Disaster Service Citation, and the John Edgar |
21 | | Hoover Memorial Award for continually seeking a lifetime of |
22 | | education and advancement; he has also received the great |
23 | | honor of being named to the American Police Hall of Fame and |

1 | | has received multiple letters of appreciation for his efforts; |
2 | | therefore, be it

3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
4 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
5 | | we congratulate Sheriff Jon Sandage on his retirement as |
6 | | Sheriff of McLean County, and we recognize his commitment and |
7 | | service to the community and the State of Illinois; and be it |
8 | | further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to Sheriff Sandage as an expression of our esteem |
11 | | and respect.
