HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Karen
4Susan Elmira Johnson Jones, who passed away on September 10,
52022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Karen Jones was born to Claire Yvonne Johnson and
7Alfred Lloyd Johnson Sr. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on
8January 12, 1961; she graduated from Saul W.B. Agricultural
9School in 1978; she earned her Bachelor of Science in
10Chemistry from Beaver College, known today as Arcadia
11University, in 1982; she married Glenn Allen Jones in Fort
12Worth, Texas, and they resided in Gurnee, Illinois; she
13obtained her MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of
14Management in 2001; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Karen Jones worked at Abbott Laboratories, a
16Global Healthcare and Fortune 500 company, for 33 years; she
17retired as Communications and Quality Operations Program
18Manager; during her tenure, she received several awards and
19accolades, and she was a member of several professional
20organizations and committees; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Karen Jones committed to her faith at a young
22age; as a child, she was baptized at Pinkett Tabernacle

1Friendly Methodist Church in North Philadelphia; she was an
2active member of Turning Point Life Church in Kenosha,
3Wisconsin; and
 
4    WHEREAS, For 20 years, Karen Jones served as the CEO of The
5Chocolate Chip Association, a STEM/STEAM program based in Lake
6County that has taught thousands of Black and Brown girls
7worldwide in entrepreneurship, aviation, cooking, performing
8arts, robotics, and all things STEAM-related; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Karen Jones is survived by her husband of 38
10years, Glenn; her children, Glen Alexander, Christopher Owen,
11and Joy Cassandra; her parents; her brothers, Alfred (Wanda),
12Jeffrey, Timothy (Calencia), and Caleaf; her granddaughters,
13Amira and Nylah; her mother-in-law, Bernice Jones; her
14sister-in-law, Helen Jones; her brothers-in-law, Douglas
15(Regina) Jones and Lawrence Jones; the Spann Clan; the
16McAliley's; her special friends, Saundra Dixon, Lenita Spears,
17Patricia Jones, Betty Peeples, Carla Little, Kimberly Bright,
18Teresa Brown, Lisa Wilkerson, Trechy Beasley, Kay Kneeland,
19Astrid Tompkins, Mori Banks, Rose Lewis, and Sheila Banks; and
20a host of cousins, relatives, family, and friends; therefore,
21be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
23HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Karen Susan Elmira Johnson Jones and
2extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
3who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

6deepest sympathy.
