2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Karen |
4 | | Susan Elmira Johnson Jones, who passed away on September 10, |
5 | | 2022; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Karen Jones was born to Claire Yvonne Johnson and |
7 | | Alfred Lloyd Johnson Sr. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on |
8 | | January 12, 1961; she graduated from Saul W.B. Agricultural |
9 | | School in 1978; she earned her Bachelor of Science in |
10 | | Chemistry from Beaver College, known today as Arcadia |
11 | | University, in 1982; she married Glenn Allen Jones in Fort |
12 | | Worth, Texas, and they resided in Gurnee, Illinois; she |
13 | | obtained her MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of |
14 | | Management in 2001; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Karen Jones worked at Abbott Laboratories, a |
16 | | Global Healthcare and Fortune 500 company, for 33 years; she |
17 | | retired as Communications and Quality Operations Program |
18 | | Manager; during her tenure, she received several awards and |
19 | | accolades, and she was a member of several professional |
20 | | organizations and committees; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Karen Jones committed to her faith at a young |
22 | | age; as a child, she was baptized at Pinkett Tabernacle |

1 | | Friendly Methodist Church in North Philadelphia; she was an |
2 | | active member of Turning Point Life Church in Kenosha, |
3 | | Wisconsin; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, For 20 years, Karen Jones served as the CEO of The |
5 | | Chocolate Chip Association, a STEM/STEAM program based in Lake |
6 | | County that has taught thousands of Black and Brown girls |
7 | | worldwide in entrepreneurship, aviation, cooking, performing |
8 | | arts, robotics, and all things STEAM-related; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Karen Jones is survived by her husband of 38 |
10 | | years, Glenn; her children, Glen Alexander, Christopher Owen, |
11 | | and Joy Cassandra; her parents; her brothers, Alfred (Wanda), |
12 | | Jeffrey, Timothy (Calencia), and Caleaf; her granddaughters, |
13 | | Amira and Nylah; her mother-in-law, Bernice Jones; her |
14 | | sister-in-law, Helen Jones; her brothers-in-law, Douglas |
15 | | (Regina) Jones and Lawrence Jones; the Spann Clan; the |
16 | | McAliley's; her special friends, Saundra Dixon, Lenita Spears, |
17 | | Patricia Jones, Betty Peeples, Carla Little, Kimberly Bright, |
18 | | Teresa Brown, Lisa Wilkerson, Trechy Beasley, Kay Kneeland, |
19 | | Astrid Tompkins, Mori Banks, Rose Lewis, and Sheila Banks; and |
20 | | a host of cousins, relatives, family, and friends; therefore, |
