2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Cook County Sheriff's |
4 | | Police Department on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, |
5 | | providing a century of service to the residents of suburban |
6 | | Cook County and the City of Chicago; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department, |
8 | | originally named the Cook County Sheriff's Highway Police |
9 | | Department, was created when the first 32 Cook County Highway |
10 | | Police Officers were officially sworn in for duty in 1922; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Today, 100 years later, the Cook County Sheriff's |
12 | | Police Department is the third largest police department in |
13 | | the State of Illinois, with more than 500 sworn officers; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department's |
15 | | officers are state certified law enforcement officers charged |
16 | | with patrolling unincorporated areas of Cook County as well as |
17 | | assisting suburban police departments; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department's |
19 | | primary responsibility, as mandated by the Illinois State |
20 | | Constitution, is to provide police services to the 109,000 |
21 | | residents in the unincorporated areas of Cook County; and
|
|

1 | | WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department has |
2 | | numerous specialized units that provide services to federal, |
3 | | state, and local law enforcement agencies on a mutual aid |
4 | | basis, including the Investigations Unit, the Evidence |
5 | | Technician Unit, the Narcotics and Street Crimes Suppression |
6 | | Units, the Gun Team, the Bomb Unit, Emergency 911 Dispatch, |
7 | | 24-hour Warrant Desk, the Truck and Traffic Unit, the |
8 | | Community Engagement Unit, Emergency Services, Senior Citizen |
9 | | Services, and the Special Victims Unit; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department is |
11 | | the first and only police department in Illinois allowed |
12 | | membership to the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), |
13 | | assisting with search and rescue operations on land and water |
14 | | emergencies; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department works |
16 | | to provide the citizens of Cook County with well-trained |
17 | | officers who serve the community with dedication and pride; |
18 | | therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
20 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
21 | | we congratulate the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department |
22 | | for its 100 years of service to the citizens of Cook County, |
