HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. on January 9, 1914 with the vision to be "a part of" the general community rather than "apart from" the general community; and

WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is an international organization of college and professional men, open to all races, religions, classes, and national origins with over 200,000 members and more than 500 chapters in the United States, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia; and

WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. promotes brotherhood, scholarship, and service and conducts national programs in education, social action, and bigger and better business through its motto, "Culture for Service and Service for Humanity"; and

WHEREAS, The Nu Lambda Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma was founded in Lake County on February 19, 2005; and

WHEREAS, The Nu Lambda Sigma Chapter has remained committed to its mission to provide academic assistance and leadership development to underserved and underrepresented young men between the ages of eight and 18; and

WHEREAS, The Nu Lambda Sigma Chapter will celebrate its 17-year anniversary and will host, in partnership with the Blue Crescent Outreach Foundation (BCOF), its Ninth Annual Blue and White Scholarship Gala in Mundelein on September 24, 2022; the chapter's theme for this year's event is "One Community, Every Child, and One Sigma"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Nu Lambda Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma on its 17-year anniversary and commend its contributions to Lake County; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Nu Lambda Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma as an expression of our esteem and respect.
