2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jimmie |
4 | | Lee Burton Glass, who passed away on July 6, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass was born to Robert and Eula Mae |
6 | | Burton in Panama City, Florida on October 7, 1938; she |
7 | | committed to her faith at an early age and was a member of Mt. |
8 | | Moriah Church; she attended Rosenwald High School where she |
9 | | played guard on the girls' basketball team; she completed the |
10 | | Red Cross Home Nursing course: Home Care of the Sick at age 15; |
11 | | she left Florida and moved to Chicago at the age of 16 to |
12 | | assist with the care of her nieces and nephew; after meeting on |
13 | | a blind date in 1956, she later married Huey Leonard Glass; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass worked for the Chicago Board of |
15 | | Education; she began work as a lunchroom attendant and was |
16 | | promoted to lunchroom manager within four years; she worked |
17 | | predominantly in south and west side schools, ensuring that |
18 | | students had proper nutrition and were ready to learn; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass was a member of Mount Calvary |
20 | | Baptist Church and later joined Pullman Christian Reformed |
21 | | Church; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass had many hobbies and interests; she |
2 | | loved taking pictures, including taking selfies back in the |
3 | | 1970s and candid photos of her children; she was an |
4 | | exceptional cook and baker and had a green thumb, producing an |
5 | | amazing rose garden and vegetable garden; she loved watches |
6 | | and playing cards with her neighbors on warm summer nights; |
7 | | she had a talent for typing, sewing, shorthand, crocheting, |
8 | | and puzzles; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass was preceded in death by her |
10 | | parents; her daughter, Gwendolyn Cecelia; her two brothers, |
11 | | Donnie and Robert; her three sisters, Zephia, Ruby, and Eula; |
12 | | her nine brothers-in-law, J.B., Earlie, Herman, Coleman, |
13 | | James, Earnest, Roosevelt, Curtis, and Calvin; her six |
14 | | sisters-in-law, Julia, Blanche, Carolyn, Adell, Dorothy, and |
15 | | Ann; and her son-in-law, Gregory; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Jimmie Glass is survived by her children, Vaughn, |
17 | | Jennifer, Linda, Jeffrey, and Donica; her grandchildren, |
18 | | Iasha, Naja, and Gianina; her great-grandchildren, Amari and |
19 | | Carter; her sister, Barbara; her sisters-in-law, Ann and |
20 | | Burnette; her daughter-in-law, Tenia; her self-adopted |
21 | | daughter, Natatia; her nieces and nephews; her cousins; and |
22 | | her friends; therefore, be it
