|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Officer Rebecca Hayes and |
4 | | Officer Chad Vargas of the Oswego Police Department for their |
5 | | lifesaving actions on June 12, 2022; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, On Sunday, June 12, a car heading north on Harvey |
7 | | Road drove through a stop sign and struck a dump truck that was |
8 | | hauling a trailer while heading east on Wolf's Crossing in |
9 | | Oswego; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Officer Hayes and Officer Vargas responded to the |
11 | | crash, finding the car in the intersection with its engine on |
12 | | fire; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Although the passenger could exit the vehicle, |
14 | | Officer Hayes ran to and around the vehicle to rescue the |
15 | | driver while Officer Vargas extinguished the flames; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Officer Hayes and Officer Vargas moved both |
17 | | individuals away from the car and performed lifesaving |
18 | | measures as well as first aid until paramedics arrived at the |
19 | | scene and transported the driver and passenger to the |
20 | | hospital; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Officer Hayes and Officer Vargas were recognized |
2 | | by the Oswego Police Department for their heroic response, |
3 | | ensuring the events of that day did not get worse; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, The Oswego Police Department stated the driver |
5 | | was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), among |
6 | | other charges, and cited the incident online to urge people to |
7 | | not drink and drive; therefore, be it
|
8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
9 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
10 | | we recognize and thank Officer Rebecca Hayes and Officer Chad |
11 | | Vargas of the Oswego Police Department for their quick and |
12 | | decisive actions and their commitment to save lives and |
13 | | protect overall public safety; and be it further
|
14 | | RESOLVED, That we recognize the bravery and sacrifice of |
15 | | police officers across the State of Illinois who so often |
16 | | demonstrate their willingness to put their lives at risk to |
17 | | protect our communities; and be it further
|
18 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to Officer Rebecca Hayes, Officer Chad Vargas, and |
20 | | Chief Jeffrey R. Burgner of the Oswego Police Department as an |
21 | | expression of our esteem and respect.
