HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ian
4Jerrod Dabney, who passed away on June 3, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ian Dabney was born in Chicago to Jerome and
6Argentina Dabney on December 24, 1987 and was raised on the
7West Side of Chicago and in Oak Park; as a child, he attended
8Bethel Lutheran Church and then Shekinah Ministries; he
9followed his dad's every move each summer, inevitably
10participating in the Simba Circle's summer rites of passage
11program, which offered Afro-diasporic teachings designed to
12develop young inner-city boys into thriving young men; he
13developed a love for community and became a Simba Circle
14Nation Builder, counselor, and mentor; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ian Dabney married Troyah in Cancun, Mexico on
16May 21, 2021; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ian Dabney's lifelong admiration for Kobe Bryant
18led him to pursue his dream of working in the field; he forged
19relationships with NBA trainers, referees, and star players,
20most notable three-time NBA champion and friend, Andre
21Iguadola, and used his passion and skill for the game to work
22with youth who loved the game just as he did; his most notable

1work was as a volunteer Sports Enrichment and Advocacy
2Specialist at the Linda and Bill Gantz Boys and Girls Club of
3Chicago (Lakeview Lakers) in the Lakeview community; his
4ongoing passion and ardent entrepreneurship led him to start
5the program For the Win, LLC, where he trained young athletes
6in life skills and so much more through focused player
7development, fitness, coaching, and mentoring; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ian Dabney never missed an opportunity to joke
9lovingly with others, which always resulted in fun, smiles,
10and laughter; he possessed a spirit of kindness, honesty,
11compassion, intelligence, and loyalty, and he was an
12adventurous lover of life; he had a positive impact on many
13lives; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ian Dabney was preceded in death by his
15great-grandparents and grandparents; his aunts, Gail and
16Diane; and his cousins, Ramon and Jori; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ian Dabney is survived by his wife, Troyah; his
18daughter who is on the way; his parents; his siblings, Jermale
19Sr. (Kimyatta), Terrence, Ashlei, and Jai; numerous nieces and
20nephews, cousins, in-laws, and extended family; his Godmother;
21and a close circle of friends; therefore, be it

1HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we mourn the passing of Ian Jerrod Dabney and extend our
3sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
4and loved him; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Ian Dabney as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
