2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ian |
4 | | Jerrod Dabney, who passed away on June 3, 2022; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ian Dabney was born in Chicago to Jerome and |
6 | | Argentina Dabney on December 24, 1987 and was raised on the |
7 | | West Side of Chicago and in Oak Park; as a child, he attended |
8 | | Bethel Lutheran Church and then Shekinah Ministries; he |
9 | | followed his dad's every move each summer, inevitably |
10 | | participating in the Simba Circle's summer rites of passage |
11 | | program, which offered Afro-diasporic teachings designed to |
12 | | develop young inner-city boys into thriving young men; he |
13 | | developed a love for community and became a Simba Circle |
14 | | Nation Builder, counselor, and mentor; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Ian Dabney married Troyah in Cancun, Mexico on |
16 | | May 21, 2021; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, Ian Dabney's lifelong admiration for Kobe Bryant |
18 | | led him to pursue his dream of working in the field; he forged |
19 | | relationships with NBA trainers, referees, and star players, |
20 | | most notable three-time NBA champion and friend, Andre |
21 | | Iguadola, and used his passion and skill for the game to work |
22 | | with youth who loved the game just as he did; his most notable |

1 | | work was as a volunteer Sports Enrichment and Advocacy |
2 | | Specialist at the Linda and Bill Gantz Boys and Girls Club of |
3 | | Chicago (Lakeview Lakers) in the Lakeview community; his |
4 | | ongoing passion and ardent entrepreneurship led him to start |
5 | | the program For the Win, LLC, where he trained young athletes |
6 | | in life skills and so much more through focused player |
7 | | development, fitness, coaching, and mentoring; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Ian Dabney never missed an opportunity to joke |
9 | | lovingly with others, which always resulted in fun, smiles, |
10 | | and laughter; he possessed a spirit of kindness, honesty, |
11 | | compassion, intelligence, and loyalty, and he was an |
12 | | adventurous lover of life; he had a positive impact on many |
13 | | lives; and

14 | | WHEREAS, Ian Dabney was preceded in death by his |
15 | | great-grandparents and grandparents; his aunts, Gail and |
16 | | Diane; and his cousins, Ramon and Jori; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Ian Dabney is survived by his wife, Troyah; his |
18 | | daughter who is on the way; his parents; his siblings, Jermale |
19 | | Sr. (Kimyatta), Terrence, Ashlei, and Jai; numerous nieces and |
20 | | nephews, cousins, in-laws, and extended family; his Godmother; |
21 | | and a close circle of friends; therefore, be it

1 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
2 | | we mourn the passing of Ian Jerrod Dabney and extend our |
3 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
4 | | and loved him; and be it further

5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the family of Ian Dabney as an expression of our |
