2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Sheriff David A. Snyders |
4 | | on the occasion of his retirement as Stephenson County Sheriff |
5 | | on November 30, 2022; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has enjoyed a distinguished |
7 | | 44-year career in law enforcement, including 20 years with the |
8 | | City of Freeport Police Department from 1978 to 1998 serving |
9 | | in Patrol and Investigation and with the Freeport Park |
10 | | District Police during the same 20-year period serving in |
11 | | Patrol and then as chief; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders was a founding member of the |
13 | | Freeport Police and Stephenson County Emergency Response Team; |
14 | | and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has served as Sheriff of |
16 | | Stephenson County for 24 years; he was first elected in 1998 |
17 | | and is the longest serving sheriff in the history of the |
18 | | county; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has been an active member of the |
20 | | National Sheriff's Association, the Illinois Sheriff's |
21 | | Association, and the FBI National Academy Associates; he |
|

1 | | served in leadership positions with the Northwest Illinois Law |
2 | | Enforcement Executives Association, the Northern Illinois |
3 | | Sheriff's Association, the Northwest Criminal Justice |
4 | | Commission, and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System |
5 | | Executive Board; additionally, he was a member of the Law |
6 | | Enforcement Aviation Coalition Board; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Since 2002, Sheriff Snyders has proudly served as |
8 | | President of the Board of Directors for Tyler's Justice Center |
9 | | for Children, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to |
10 | | lessening the trauma of child victims by providing a |
11 | | sensitive, collaborative response to the investigation, |
12 | | prosecution, and treatment of child sexual abuse and serious |
13 | | physical abuse cases in Stephenson, Jo Daviess, and Carroll |
14 | | Counties; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders is a 1978 graduate of the Police |
16 | | Training Institute, a 1998 graduate of the Illinois Sheriffs |
17 | | Management Institute, a 2001 graduate of the National |
18 | | Sheriff's Institute, and a 2007 graduate of the FBI National |
19 | | Academy–229th Session; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Snyders has been a mentor to countless |
21 | | police officers and sheriff's deputies over the years and has |
22 | | set an exemplary standard of leadership and professionalism as |
23 | | a sheriff; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
2 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
3 | | we commend Stephenson County Sheriff David A. Snyders on his |
4 | | distinguished 44-year career in law enforcement and wish him |
5 | | all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to Sheriff Snyders as a symbol of our esteem and |
8 | | respect.
