2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Monserrate Diaz on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of her 80th birthday on June 22, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz was born to Adelina Roman and | ||||||
6 | Alejandro Diaz in Esperanza, Arecibo, Puerto Rico on June 22, | ||||||
7 | 1942; growing up, she was noted for being highly intelligent, | ||||||
8 | quiet, responsible, humble, cooperative, and a hard worker; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz attended Escuela Diego Bravo | ||||||
11 | until seventh grade; alongside her family, she moved to | ||||||
12 | Chicago and attended Cooper School until 1958; she entered Our | ||||||
13 | Lady of Bethlehem Convent under the Order of St. Joseph in | ||||||
14 | August 1958; she attended Nazareth Academy during her high | ||||||
15 | school years; she received her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal | ||||||
16 | Arts from Rosary College; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz taught third grade at St. | ||||||
18 | Bonaventure Catholic School; she decided to leave the Order of | ||||||
19 | St. Joseph in 1967, returning home; she then decided to go to | ||||||
20 | Puerto Rico, where she worked at Centro Medico for two and a | ||||||
21 | half years; and

1 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz returned to Chicago in 1969; she | ||||||
2 | earned her Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of | ||||||
3 | Chicago; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz worked for United Charities for | ||||||
5 | one year before serving as a social worker at Tulley High | ||||||
6 | School; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz was recruited to work with | ||||||
8 | Senator Charles Percy in Washington, D.C., where she served as | ||||||
9 | the social worker community liaison for two years; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz went to work at the Department of | ||||||
11 | Justice Juvenile Justice Division, and she was responsible for | ||||||
12 | reviewing grants for the department; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz then worked as a special agent | ||||||
14 | with the Department of Immigration and Naturalization; in | ||||||
15 | addition to her service in the United States, she worked in | ||||||
16 | Rome, Italy, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto | ||||||
17 | Rico, the Caribbean, and Cuba; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz married Charles Ramon Rivera on | ||||||
19 | June 11, 1983, and they lived in Arlington, Virginia; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz worked for the federal government |

| |||||||
1 | for 30 years; upon her retirement, she moved with her family to | ||||||
2 | Orlando, Florida; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Monserrate Diaz has always been a very caring, | ||||||
4 | compassionate, and giving woman, and she is known for always | ||||||
5 | helping her family and strangers in need; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
7 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
8 | we congratulate Monserrate Diaz on celebrating her 80th | ||||||
9 | birthday, and we wish her many more happy and healthy years; | ||||||
10 | and be it further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to Monserrate Diaz as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
13 | and respect.
