HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Isaiah Phillip Woods, who passed away on May 23, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was born to Anthony Phillip Woods and Yvette Williams on September 6, 1990; he received his primary education from Trinity United Church of Christ Child Care, Evangelical Christian School, and Matteson School District 162, where he was in the gifted program from the first through eighth grades; he graduated from Marian Catholic High School with high honors and Howard University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Actuarial Science Insurance with high honors; he was on Howard University's Dean's List; he continued his insurance education at DePaul University, where he completed a variety of master's degree courses in risk management; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods had previously worked in his elementary school's store; he worked at Fortune 100 Companies, including Wintrust, Lloyds of London, McAdam Financially Advanced, AGB Investigative Services, and Walgreens; he was also an entrepreneur who created music beats and had his own clothing line; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods served on the Lloyds of London Executive Board and the TR2 Non-Profit Executive Board; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) in Chicago; he was active in the Little Warriors for Christ Ministry, the Imani Choir Ministry, the Martial Arts Ministry, the Math Tutorial Ministry, the Adopt-A-Student Ministry, the Youth Ministry, and the Media Ministry; he played with the Matteson-Olympia Fields baseball team and several other baseball and basketball teams for over nine years; he was a member of his junior high school's book club, chess club, and math club; he was a member of Marian Catholic High School's math club, football team, and wrestling team; while in college, he was a member of Howard University's School of Business: Executive Leadership Honors Program and was a Howard 2lst Career Awareness Program team leader; he was captain of Howard's baseball team and was a member of the student consulting group, the real estate club, and the finance club; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods partook in numerous internships, including the President Barack Obama's Office of Presidential Correspondence internship, the FDIC Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation internship, the Deloitte Advisory Enterprise Risk Services internship, the Aon internship, the Grainger internship, Harvard University's Summer Venue Internship Program in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Boward University Center for Insurance Education Summer Internship in New York; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was a Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar and was featured on the Suburban Issues television program as an honor roll student, representing Matteson School District 162; in addition, he received a multitude of other awards and scholarships, including TUCC's Dr. Manford Byrd Award, TUCC's Lucille Ellison/Kathryn Brown Memorial Scholarship, a United Negro College Fund scholarship, a Foundation for Agency Management Excellence Insurance scholarship, a Chade Foundation Scholarship, a Junior Achievement scholarship, a Park National Bank scholarship, a Ron Brown scholarship, a N'DIGO Foundation, a National African American Insurance Association scholarship, and a Kevin Kaplan Foundation scholarship; he was also on the high honor roll and received a perfect attendance award, an art award, a Principal's Award for receiving straight A's all four quarters, a math award, a Spanish award, a Wolf-Outstanding Effort award, a Pride-Outstanding Behavior award, a reading award, and a writers workshop award; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods enjoyed traveling, listening to music, and spending time with friends; he loved playing baseball and basketball, starting at the age nine; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Minnie Williams, and his aunt, Marie Williams Baskin; and

WHEREAS, Isaiah Woods is survived by his parents; his brother, Joshua Woods; his aunts, Debra Ann Williams Warthon, Sharon Woods, Francesca Woods, Francheska Woods, Sheila (Jackie) Holloway, Olga Woods, Mary Woods, and Gwen Woods; his uncles, James, Samson, Spencer, Jamie (Pam), and Orlando (Tianna); his great-uncles, Edward (Alvie) Barlow and James (Beverly) Barlow; his great-aunts, Helen Barlow, Mamie Williams, and Corine Croon; his cousins, Ricky Williams, Jamari Baskin, Latoya Warthon, Karechia Wallace Warthon, and Alissa Rickia Williams; numerous his other cousins; his godfather, Larry Smith; his godmother, Laurinia Ford; and numerous other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Isaiah Phillip Woods and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Isaiah Woods as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
