2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of | ||||||
4 | Guadalupe "Lupe" (Bedolla) Jimenez of Chicago, who passed away | ||||||
5 | on February 7, 2022; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was born to Socorro and Efrain | ||||||
7 | Bedolla in Chicago on March 16, 1957; she graduated high | ||||||
8 | school in 1975; she married Jose Jimenez in 1975, and they had | ||||||
9 | three children; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Alongside her husband, Guadalupe Jimenez | ||||||
11 | co-founded Carnicerias Jimenez, one of Chicago's first | ||||||
12 | successful Mexican grocery businesses, which has expanded to | ||||||
13 | many locations throughout the Chicagoland area, including West | ||||||
14 | Chicago; they opened their first storefront, Fruteria Jimenez, | ||||||
15 | in 1975; they opened their second location, Carnicerias | ||||||
16 | Jimenez, on August 8, 1976; they opened their third storefront | ||||||
17 | at 4204 West North Avenue in 1977, where it still stands today; | ||||||
18 | they built a grocery business that started with just | ||||||
19 | themselves as employees and developed into a thriving | ||||||
20 | enterprise that employs more than 400 people, including many | ||||||
21 | who would become pioneers of the Mexican community; their | ||||||
22 | business has won many national and local awards throughout the | ||||||
23 | years for their corporate citizenship and citizen involvement; |

1 | she maintained an active role in the business until her death; | ||||||
2 | and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez left a lasting impact on the | ||||||
4 | community of West Chicago through her advocacy, including | ||||||
5 | donating two semi-trucks full of plastic water bottles for the | ||||||
6 | individuals in Flint, Michigan who were in need of clean | ||||||
7 | water; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was deeply committed to her | ||||||
9 | faith; she was a significant pillar for the Archdiocese of | ||||||
10 | Chicago, and she mentored many local entrepreneurs and | ||||||
11 | silently sponsored organizations throughout the city, country, | ||||||
12 | and world; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was a formidable businesswoman | ||||||
14 | and trailblazer whose no-nonsense approach was softened by her | ||||||
15 | charming manner, great love for people, and huge heart; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez was preceded in death by her | ||||||
17 | sister, Sandra; her brothers, Arturo, Efrain (Junior), and | ||||||
18 | Jorgito; and her father, Efrain Bedolla; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Guadalupe Jimenez is survived by her husband, | ||||||
20 | Jose Jimenez; her children, Luz Maribel, Jose III, and Lupita; | ||||||
21 | her grandchildren, Victorito, Jose Alejandro, Adriana Sophia, |

1 | and Camila Itzel; her brothers, Patricio, Mario, Pepe, | ||||||
2 | Octavio, and Andres; and her mother, Socorro Bedolla; | ||||||
3 | therefore, be it

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
5 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we mourn the passing of Guadalupe "Lupe" (Bedolla) Jimenez and | ||||||
7 | extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all | ||||||
8 | who knew and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Guadalupe Jimenez as an expression | ||||||
11 | of our deepest sympathy.
