HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous
3system disorder that affects movement; symptoms start
4gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor
5in just one hand; additional symptoms may include slowed
6movement, rigid muscles, impaired posture and balance, loss of
7automatic movements, speech changes, and writing changes; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease can
9be different for everyone; early signs may be mild and go
10unnoticed; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The cause of Parkinson's disease is unknown, and
12therefore, proven ways to prevent the disease also remain a
13mystery; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Approximately 50,000 Americans are diagnosed with
15Parkinson's disease each year, and an estimated one millions
16people in the U.S. and 7 to 10 million people worldwide are
17living with the disease; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Although Parkinson's disease cannot be cured,
19medications might significantly improve one's symptoms; early
20detection is key; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we declare April 2022 as "Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month"
4in the State of Illinois to bring attention to those battling
5Parkinson's and to the importance of early detection and
6treatments.
