2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to recognize Lou Mallers on being named |
4 | | Darien's 2022 Citizen of the Year; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Lou Mallers, a veteran of the United States Army |
6 | | Reserve, moved to Darien in 1989; choosing a professional life |
7 | | in mortgage finance, he serves as Vice President of Business |
8 | | Development at Compass Mortgage; as an active mortgage banker, |
9 | | he has served as President of the Illinois Mortgage Bankers |
10 | | Association; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, As a member of the Darien Lions Club since 1990, |
12 | | Lou Mallers has organized, or has helped to organize, more |
13 | | than 30 years of community and holiday events; the Lions Club |
14 | | has assumed a key role in Darien's annual remembrance of 9/11 |
15 | | and the sacrifices made by firefighters, first responders, and |
16 | | all U.S. service personnel; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, At Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Darien, Lou |
18 | | Mallers is a leader of his parish's lay community; as service |
19 | | commissioner within the parish council, he has led a corps of |
20 | | volunteers in the ongoing Christian life of his church and its |
21 | | outreach efforts to those in need, which includes the St. |
22 | | Vincent DePaul clothing drive; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, As a homeowning citizen of Darien, Lou Mallers |
2 | | has served or serves actively on three decisive citizens' |
3 | | committees, including the School District #86's Citizen's |
4 | | Referendum Advisory Committee, the Darien Economic Development |
5 | | Commission, and, since 2012, the Darien Planning and Zoning |
6 | | Commission, on which he currently serves as chairperson; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Lou Mallers' community life includes his long |
8 | | service as president of the Pinehurst Homeowners' Association, |
9 | | a challenge that reached its height on June 20, 2021 when the |
10 | | neighborhood was hit by a tornado; as the HOA president, he |
11 | | mobilized needed help to restore the subdivision's |
12 | | infrastructure; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, As a tribute to his active life of community |
14 | | participation, the Darien Citizen of the Year Committee has |
15 | | unanimously chosen to honor Lou Mallers as Darien's 2022 |
16 | | Citizen of the Year; therefore, be it
|
17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
18 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
19 | | we recognize Lou Mallers as Darien's 2022 Citizen of the Year, |
20 | | warmly congratulate his family that includes wife Carol, son |
21 | | and daughter-in-law Jeff and Carmen Mallers, and grandchildren |
22 | | Kendell and Kellen Mallers, and wish him many years of |
