HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Majority Leader Greg 
4Harris on his national award from the State Access to 
5Innovative Medicines Coalition; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Leader Harris has been leading the charge to 
7ensure Illinoisans have access to quality and comprehensive 
8healthcare; and
 
9    WHEREAS, During his tenure in the Illinois General 
10Assembly, Leader Harris has carved a niche for healthcare; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Leader Harris has been the key negotiator on all 
12aspects of healthcare legislation, including Medicaid, managed 
13care organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, insurance 
14coverage, and patient access to innovative medicines and 
15treatments; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, Because of Leader Harris'  efforts and guidance, 
17Illinois has prioritized impactful healthcare legislation to 
18ensure healthcare is accessible for all Illinoisans; and
 
19    WHEREAS, In 2021, as soaring co-pays and coinsurance 
20requirements were making prescription drugs unaffordable,

1particularly for those with chronic conditions, Leader Harris 
2sponsored a measure (House Bill 1745) to ensure consumers have 
3the ability to plan and predict their out of pocket 
4requirements and cost sharing; and
 
5    WHEREAS, House Bill 1745 passed unanimously out of the 
6House Insurance committee and out of the House chamber; and
 
7    WHEREAS, With Leader Harris' strong resolve, Illinois 
8became the first state to pass consumer protections to give 
9patients across Illinois choices when shopping for their 
10health insurance; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Organizations, such as the  AIDS Foundation of 
12Chicago, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, 
13the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Protect Our Care, and many 
14other member organizations of the State Access to Innovative 
15Medicines Coalition, supported Leader Harris' initiative to 
16give consumers more options to plan and predict their 
17prescription drug costs; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The State Access to Innovative Medicines 
19Coalition honored Leader Harris with their most prestigious 
20award, the National Patient Access Champion Award 2021, in 
21recognition of his significant contributions to protect 
22patients and ensure out of pocket costs are predictable;

1therefore, be it
  
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
3HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
4we congratulate Majority Leader Greg Harris on his national 
5award from the State Access to Innovative Medicines Coalition, 
6honoring his work to ensure Illinoisans have access to the 
7innovative medicines that help save lives; and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Leader Harris as a symbol of our respect and 
10esteem.
