2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Majority Leader Greg |
4 | | Harris on his national award from the State Access to |
5 | | Innovative Medicines Coalition; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Leader Harris has been leading the charge to |
7 | | ensure Illinoisans have access to quality and comprehensive |
8 | | healthcare; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure in the Illinois General |
10 | | Assembly, Leader Harris has carved a niche for healthcare; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Leader Harris has been the key negotiator on all |
12 | | aspects of healthcare legislation, including Medicaid, managed |
13 | | care organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, insurance |
14 | | coverage, and patient access to innovative medicines and |
15 | | treatments; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Because of Leader Harris' efforts and guidance, |
17 | | Illinois has prioritized impactful healthcare legislation to |
18 | | ensure healthcare is accessible for all Illinoisans; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, In 2021, as soaring co-pays and coinsurance |
20 | | requirements were making prescription drugs unaffordable, |

1 | | particularly for those with chronic conditions, Leader Harris |
2 | | sponsored a measure (House Bill 1745) to ensure consumers have |
3 | | the ability to plan and predict their out of pocket |
4 | | requirements and cost sharing; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, House Bill 1745 passed unanimously out of the |
6 | | House Insurance committee and out of the House chamber; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, With Leader Harris' strong resolve, Illinois |
8 | | became the first state to pass consumer protections to give |
9 | | patients across Illinois choices when shopping for their |
10 | | health insurance; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Organizations, such as the AIDS Foundation of |
12 | | Chicago, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, |
13 | | the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Protect Our Care, and many |
14 | | other member organizations of the State Access to Innovative |
15 | | Medicines Coalition, supported Leader Harris' initiative to |
16 | | give consumers more options to plan and predict their |
17 | | prescription drug costs; and

18 | | WHEREAS, The State Access to Innovative Medicines |
19 | | Coalition honored Leader Harris with their most prestigious |
20 | | award, the National Patient Access Champion Award 2021, in |
21 | | recognition of his significant contributions to protect |
22 | | patients and ensure out of pocket costs are predictable; |

2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
3 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
4 | | we congratulate Majority Leader Greg Harris on his national |
5 | | award from the State Access to Innovative Medicines Coalition, |
6 | | honoring his work to ensure Illinoisans have access to the |
7 | | innovative medicines that help save lives; and be it further

8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
9 | | presented to Leader Harris as a symbol of our respect and |
10 | | esteem.
