2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to commend Roger Addelson on his five |
4 | | years of distinguished service as a Vernon Township Trustee; |
5 | | and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Roger Addelson helped oversee the expansion of |
7 | | hours of the Vernon Township Food Pantry and its conversion |
8 | | into a grocery store experience, so the Vernon Township |
9 | | community's seniors, immigrants, and people in need would have |
10 | | access to a reliable, dignified source of healthful food; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Roger Addelson spearheaded the creation of the |
12 | | Vernon Township Energy Resilience Commission and championed |
13 | | initiatives that would fight climate change, reduce Vernon |
14 | | Township's dependence on fossil fuels, and promote |
15 | | conservation efforts; projects were completed to weatherize |
16 | | Vernon Township's facilities to reduce energy consumption and |
17 | | save taxpayers money; Vernon Township established a free |
18 | | community garden to supply fresh produce to the food pantry; |
19 | | and

20 | | WHEREAS, Roger Addelson supported Vernon Township's |
21 | | efforts to address the COVID-19 crisis; free masks and hand |
22 | | sanitizer were distributed to residents; a call center was |
|

1 | | established to help connect local seniors with appointments to |
2 | | receive the COVID-19 vaccine; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Roger Addelson contributed to these |
4 | | accomplishments without once raising Vernon Township's |
5 | | property tax levy; he was a leader in Vernon Township's |
6 | | efforts to solicit grants to support and expand services; the |
7 | | Township Board increased and improved services without |
8 | | increasing taxes by cutting unnecessary expenses, identifying |
9 | | alternative sources of revenue, consolidating Vernon |
10 | | Township's road district to eliminate unnecessary |
11 | | administrative expenses, and maximizing the value of its |
12 | | existing assets; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Roger Addelson was passionate about building a |
14 | | local government that is responsive to the needs of the most |
15 | | vulnerable members of our community; he oversaw the |
16 | | establishment of Vernon Township's first ever Welcoming and |
17 | | Inclusion Policy to ensure that all residents are treated with |
18 | | respect, fairness, and dignity regardless of their ethnicity, |
19 | | religion, nation of origin, or federal immigration status; he |
20 | | advocated to ensure that the township's employees were fairly |
21 | | compensated and were provided a safe workplace free from |
22 | | harassment or discrimination; therefore, be it
