2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gerlanda |
4 | | L. Miller, who passed away on December 10, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was born to Leroy and Mable |
6 | | Miller in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 21, 1963; she was |
7 | | originally from Slidell, Louisiana and graduated from Slidell |
8 | | High School; she earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting |
9 | | from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she was |
10 | | initiated into the Epsilon Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha |
11 | | Sorority, Inc. in 1983 and later served as chapter president; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was a certified public accountant |
14 | | and entrepreneur for over 25 years; she owned the Gerlanda L. |
15 | | Miller, CPA Accounting Firm, assisting clients from |
16 | | multi-million dollar corporations to foundations; she served |
17 | | as a tax auditor for over 30 years and was an experienced IRS |
18 | | audit negotiator; she was trained and licensed in Series 7 |
19 | | securities; she served as the secretary/treasurer of the |
20 | | Service Employees International Union Local 1000 and was a |
21 | | site manager for the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program; |
22 | | she served as CFO of Kingdom Litigators Law Firm and was |
23 | | treasurer of the Minority Apprenticeship Consulting |

1 | | Corporation NFP; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was dedicated to Alpha Kappa |
3 | | Alpha Sorority, Inc.; she was both a Silver Star and a Life |
4 | | Member; during her membership, she held a number of leadership |
5 | | positions and served on a number of committees; on the |
6 | | regional level, she served as chairman of the State of |
7 | | Illinois Connection and as treasurer of the Central Region, |
8 | | where she assisted in the planning of four successful and |
9 | | fiscally sound regional conferences; she also served as a |
10 | | member of the International Finance Committee; she became the |
11 | | 21st president of the Xi Nu Omega chapter, the largest chapter |
12 | | in the Central Region and the Chicagoland area, in 2021; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller belonged to a number of |
14 | | professional organizations, including the American Institute |
15 | | of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and |
16 | | the National Association of Black Accountants; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was affectionately called "Tammy" |
18 | | by her family; she was known for working with accuracy, |
19 | | integrity, and innovation; she was an invaluable sister to her |
20 | | sorority and will be dearly missed; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller is survived by her mother, Mable |
22 | | Miller; her siblings, Martha, Clara, Johnny, Gerald, and |

1 | | Patrick; a host of family and friends; and Sorors of Xi Nu |
2 | | Omega Chapter and the Central Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha |

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
5 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
6 | | we mourn the passing of Gerlanda L. Miller and extend our |
7 | | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew |
8 | | and loved her; and be it further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to the family of Gerlanda Miller as an expression of |
11 | | our deepest sympathy.
