2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Antioch Vikings |
4 | | Football and Cheer on the occasion of the organization's 50th |
5 | | anniversary; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, In 1970, the Antioch Vikings Junior Tackle |
7 | | Football was founded by Richard "Leo" McGrain with the help of |
8 | | Jim Walsh, Ron Vogt, Russ Lehn, and many others who were part |
9 | | of the Junior Football League of Northern Illinois; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, The Vikings are now part of The Chicagoland Youth |
11 | | Football League and the Illinois Cheer Association; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Cheerleading officially became part of the |
13 | | Vikings in the early 1980s, transforming the organization into |
14 | | the Antioch Vikings Youth Football and Cheer; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, The Vikings used Williams Park along with Antioch |
16 | | High School as their first home fields; the team then moved to |
17 | | Polley Field and Antioch Upper Grade School before moving to |
18 | | the Tim Osmond Sports Complex; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, The Vikings team colors were originally orange |
20 | | and brown from the 1970s to the 1980s, switching to black and |
|

1 | | gold during the 1990s to the 2010s; the team's colors are |
2 | | currently black and crimson; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, The Antioch Vikings Football and Cheer will |
4 | | celebrate its anniversary with a naming and dedication |
5 | | ceremony of its stadium and grandstands on October 2, 2022; |
6 | | and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, The stadium will be named Viking Stadium in honor |
8 | | of all those who founded the Vikings and those that carried and |
9 | | continue to carry the tradition of sportsmanship, leadership, |
10 | | volunteerism, and community with the Vikings name; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, The bleachers will be named the John F. Nebel |
12 | | Grandstands in honor of John F. Nebel, who served the Vikings |
13 | | program as a board member, president, coach, mentor, friend, |
14 | | and shining example of the Viking spirit; he, along with many |
15 | | volunteers, led the effort to secure a donation for the |
16 | | bleachers from the Naval Station Great Lakes; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, The Antioch Vikings Football and Cheer's current |
18 | | board includes President Darren Smith, Vice President of |
19 | | Football Andrew Waszcyzk, Vice President of Cheer Allisa |
20 | | Fancke, Football Player Personnel Director Richard Lee, Cheer |
21 | | Player Personnel Director Christina Barrera, Treasurer Nilesh |
22 | | Patel, Registrar Amber Campbell, Football Equipment Director |

6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
7 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
8 | | we congratulate the Antioch Vikings Football and Cheer on the |
9 | | organization's 50th anniversary, and we recognize the men and |
10 | | women who started and have continued to nurture the Antioch |
11 | | Vikings Football and Cheer program, from the founders to every |
12 | | past and present board member, president, coach, volunteer, |
13 | | player, and cheerleader; and be it further

14 | | RESOLVED, That we wish the Antioch Vikings Football and |
15 | | Cheer continued success; and be it further
|
16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 | | presented to the Antioch Vikings Football and Cheer |
18 | | organization as an expression of our esteem and respect.
