|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
|
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles |
4 | | "Chuck" Anderson, who passed away in late November 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was a Maywood resident for 75 |
6 | | years; he was a committed member of the Maywood community and |
7 | | worked with various social organizations throughout his life; |
8 | | and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was passionate about teaching; |
10 | | he had a 32-year career in public school education; he began |
11 | | his teaching career at Emerson Elementary School in Maywood |
12 | | and taught for a short period of time in the Chicago Public |
13 | | Schools; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson taught physical education and
|
15 | | was a football and wrestling coach at Proviso East High
|
16 | | School, his own alma mater; he also served as Proviso East High
|
17 | | School's assistant dean for four years; he was one of the first |
18 | | Black administrators at Proviso East High School; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was an entrepreneur and deeply |
20 | | committed to his community and family; with his wife, he |
21 | | co-owned the Che-Lis Ice Cream parlor, which was named after |
|

1 | | his two eldest daughters, located in downtown Maywood on Fifth |
2 | | Avenue; with his stepfather, he was also the co-owner of the |
3 | | Minor & Sons Auto Body & Repair shop, located on 13th and St. |
4 | | Charles Avenue in Maywood; he also owned apartment buildings |
5 | | in the village for over 50 years; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson cared deeply about his |
7 | | community, especially the youth; he was an advocate and |
8 | | founding member of the Maywood Recreation Center and was |
9 | | instrumental in starting its after school mentoring program in |
10 | | the early 1970's; throughout his life, he became a mentor to |
11 | | former students and other young men; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson was a member of the Maywood |
13 | | Horsemen, a prominent social club in Maywood known for hosting |
14 | | parties, local fundraising, and sponsoring youth activities in |
15 | | the community, such as Little League Baseball; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson dedicated his 29 years of |
17 | | retirement to enthusiastically helping others in his community |
18 | | and spending time with his family; he was an outstanding |
19 | | public servant who served as a village trustee for three years |
20 | | and then as the chairman of the Board of the Fire and Police |
21 | | Commission for several years; in addition, he was a member and |
22 | | a former chairman of the Maywood Rotary Club and a member of |
23 | | the Masonic Jeptha Lodge #90 PHA of Maywood; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson will be especially remembered |
2 | | for his warm and generous spirit; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Charles Anderson is survived by his three |
4 | | beautiful daughters, Cheryl, LisaMarea, and Daphne Anderson; |
5 | | two sisters, Glenda Minor and Vonnie Rene Anderson; and |
6 | | numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, |
7 | | and friends; therefore, be it
|
8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
9 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
10 | | we mourn the passing of Charles "Chuck" Anderson and extend |
11 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who |
12 | | knew and loved him; and be it further
|
13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
14 | | presented to the family of Charles Anderson as an expression |
15 | | of our deepest sympathy.
