2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of |
4 | | Fitzgerald Barrington Davis, who passed away on November 1, |
5 | | 2021; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis was born to Barrington and |
7 | | Gwendolyn Davis on May 15, 1944; as a child, he had an interest |
8 | | in engineering and construction, and at the age of 13, he |
9 | | started training with one of his community's finest |
10 | | carpenters; he attended Rennock Lodge Government School and |
11 | | graduated from Saint Ann Technical Trade School; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis held several different positions |
13 | | in both the private and public sectors; early in his career, he |
14 | | worked as a contractor for Gores Brothers and was regarded as |
15 | | one of the best in his profession; he was recruited to a |
16 | | supervisory position with the Pioneer Corporation and |
17 | | ultimately served as a contractor for the Roads and Works |
18 | | Department in Kingston, Jamaica, where he oversaw the |
19 | | development of critical infrastructure projects and roads in |
20 | | and around the Kingston area; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis understood that his job was more |
22 | | than just repairing roads and buildings and could benefit |
|

1 | | underserved families through community development and jobs; |
2 | | he created programs to help young people learn trades and |
3 | | develop their skills; he subsequently employed many of these |
4 | | young people and provided them with opportunities for growth, |
5 | | which improved the quality of life for residents and |
6 | | strengthened his community; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis sought opportunities to empower |
8 | | others and to care for the most vulnerable people in his |
9 | | community; his advocacy for underserved populations led him to |
10 | | a career in politics; he was chairman of the People's National |
11 | | Party and was the youth leader for the Rennock Lodge Youth |
12 | | Organization; during his time as chairman, he worked with |
13 | | government leaders to improve conditions for children and |
14 | | families in Kingston; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis immigrated to the United States |
16 | | in January of 1981 and settled in the Rogers Park neighborhood |
17 | | of Chicago with his wife and children; his first job was with |
18 | | St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, followed by a position with |
19 | | a tuckpointing company; he then worked for the Village of |
20 | | Glencoe for 16 years, retiring in 2006; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis continued to serve his community |
22 | | as a volunteer for numerous nonprofit organizations after his |
23 | | retirement; he was also actively involved with the Democratic |

1 | | Party of Evanston and worked as a crossing guard for the city; |
2 | | he deeply enjoyed serving as a crossing guard and woke up each |
3 | | morning looking forward to seeing the children along his path |
4 | | and brightening their day with words of encouragement or a |
5 | | witty quip that made them smile; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis was an elder at First Church of |
7 | | God Christian Life Center in Evanston and then became an Elder |
8 | | at Deliverance Temple Church in Skokie; his faith was the |
9 | | driving force in his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of |
10 | | faith, unconditional love, and kindness; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Fitzgerald Davis is survived by his devoted wife |
12 | | of 49 years, Sonia Davis; his daughters, Rose Scott and Karen |
13 | | Davis; his sons, Byron (Marie) Davis, Lloyd (Loraine) Davis, |
14 | | and Dave (Tara) Davis; his grandchildren, Klarissa Davis, |
15 | | Lloyd Davis Jr., Kayla Davis, Leah Davis, Theo Davis, and |
16 | | Steven Davis; his great-grandchildren, Ivy and Oakley; his |
17 | | brothers, Philip and Chris Davis; his sisters, Deloris Scott, |
18 | | Beverly Burnett, and Angela Lodge; and numerous other loving |
19 | | relatives and friends; therefore, be it

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
21 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
22 | | we mourn the passing of Fitzgerald Barrington Davis and extend |
23 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who |
