HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to thank Tom Miller for his decades of 
4dedicated service to the people of Southern Illinois and 
5congratulate him on 45 years on the air; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Tom Miller, WJPF radio personality and native, 
7life-long Southern Illinoisan, has dedicated 45 years of his 
8life to bringing news and entertainment to the people of 
9Southern Illinois; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Tom Miller is the host of the news radio WJPF 
11Morning Newswatch, which broadcasts Monday through Friday from 
126:00am to 9:00am; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Tom Miller has lived all of his life in Southern 
14Illinois and began his radio career in his hometown of 
15Harrisburg in 1976, spending much of his early career on the 
16music side of radio; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Since Tom Miller's arrival, WJPF has been awarded 
18Medium Market Station of the Year and Best Public Service 
19Program by the Illinois Broadcasters Association and received 
20the Leaders Among Us Award from the Southern Illinoisan 
21newspaper; and

1    WHEREAS, Tom Miller is a former member of the board of 
2trustees of the Bald Knob Cross of Peace and was awarded the 
3Seven Seals Award by the Illinois National Guard for his work 
4on their behalf, their highest civilian award; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Miller also serves as the operations manager 
6of River Radio and its six radio stations; and
 
7    WHEREAS, When he's not working, Tom Miller spends his time 
8with his girlfriend, Kate, or looking for deer across Southern 
9Illinois with his dog, Geddy Lee; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Tom Miller has steadily dedicated himself to the 
11betterment of the lives and communities of all of Southern 
12Illinois and has established himself as a trusted voice and 
13interviewer; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Tom Miller has hosted politicians, sports 
15figures, rock and roll legends, community leaders, medical 
16professionals, and members of every other profession in 
17between as the anchor of WJPF Radio's Morning Newswatch 
18program; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, We can say without a doubt that because of his 
20years of service and his unmatched on-air persona, Tom Miller

1has established himself now and forever as Southern Illinois' 
2true radio news anchorman; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Throughout the wave of thanks and appreciation 
4and congratulations from the people of Southern Illinois and 
5beyond marking this momentous occasion and achievement, Tom 
6Miller is famous for saying, "It's not about me."; therefore, 
7be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
9HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we take this moment to truly make it all about Tom Miller  and 
11thank him for his decades of dedicated service to the people 
12and communities of Southern Illinois as he has been a strong 
13and steady voice guiding the region through good times and 
14bad; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That we congratulate Tom Miller on the 45th 
16anniversary of his on-air broadcasting; and be it further
  
 
17    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
18presented to Tom Miller and River Radio as a token of our 
19esteem and appreciation.
