|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Kendall County Sheriff |
4 | | Dwight Baird on being named Sheriff of the Year by the Illinois |
5 | | State Crime Commission in October 2021; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, In being awarded Sheriff of the Year, the |
7 | | Illinois State Crime Commission noted that Sheriff Baird |
8 | | continues to display outstanding professional standards in law |
9 | | enforcement and advanced field training and exemplifies the |
10 | | great service and safety programs of Kendall County; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Crime Commission also noted |
12 | | that Sheriff Baird has initiated several educational programs |
13 | | for Kendall County inmates and implemented a new video |
14 | | visitation program at no cost to taxpayers; and |
15 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Crime Commission also praised |
16 | | Sheriff Baird's formation of a new domestic violence response |
17 | | team, community partnerships and outreach programs, |
18 | | implementation of body worn cameras, and many other |
19 | | improvements to communication with the public; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Baird was elected to the Office of |
21 | | Sheriff of Kendall County in 2014; he started his law |

1 | | enforcement career in 1990 when he was hired by the Kendall |
2 | | County Sheriff's Office as a deputy; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, After serving with the Kendall County Sheriff's |
4 | | Office for a year and a half, Sheriff Baird was hired by the |
5 | | Oswego Police Department, where he worked in Investigations, |
6 | | Patrol, and Undercover Narcotics and was a member of the |
7 | | Special Response Team; he rose through the ranks within the |
8 | | department to obtain the rank of Chief of Police in 2003, where |
9 | | he remained until his retirement in December of 2014; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Baird has been recognized for his |
11 | | achievements throughout his career, which include a Life |
12 | | Saving award by the Illinois Police Association, a Medal of |
13 | | Valor award by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, |
14 | | two Metropolitan Enforcement Groups Director awards, a 2007 |
15 | | Youth Service Volunteer award, and the 2006 Governor's Medal |
16 | | of Honor award and being named Oswegoland Optimist Police |
17 | | Officer of the Year in 1997 and Illinois Crime Commission |
18 | | Police Chief of the Year in 2014; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
20 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
21 | | we congratulate Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird on being |
22 | | named the 2021 Sheriff of the Year by the Illinois State Crime |
23 | | Commission; and be it further |

1 | | RESOLVED, That we commend Sheriff Baird for his long and |
2 | | successful career and thank him for all for his many years of |
3 | | service to Kendall County and the State of Illinois, and we |
4 | | extend our best wishes for continued success and happiness; |
5 | | and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to Sheriff Baird as an expression of our esteem and |
8 | | respect.
