2 | | WHEREAS, Soon after World War I, many returning troops in |
3 | | Irving were interested in sports and were looking for a place |
4 | | to play and a clubhouse in which they could gather; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, A vacant two room school house, Irving School, |
6 | | caught the soldiers' attention;
after approaching the local |
7 | | school board to inquire about the building, the school board |
8 | | asked for a list of club officers; the list of officers |
9 | | presented to the school board included President Roy Anderson, |
10 | | Vice President Isaac Berro, Treasurer Anton Bombassano, |
11 | | Financial Secretary Henry Bertagnoli, Corresponding Secretary |
12 | | Val Broadwell, and Trustees Louis Schorrie, Charles Berro, |
13 | | Lester Peterson, Howard Lapping, and Charles Fallinske; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, The local school board was satisfied and drafted |
15 | | a lease for the empty school;
on November 14, 1921, the |
16 | | building became the Irving Athletic Club (The Club); and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Later, the Irving Athletic Club members |
18 | | discovered that the building was to be auctioned; with the |
19 | | help of Frank J. "Cookie" Gospodaric, who supplied the $7,500 |
20 | | needed, the group was able to keep the building; and

21 | | WHEREAS, To repay the debt, the Irving Athletic Club held |
