| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Amelia "ART" Rucker | ||||||
| 4 | Thompson on the occasion of her art gallery opening at the | ||||||
| 5 | Center on Halsted on October 15, 2021; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson is a Chicago native, and | ||||||
| 7 | she is a Black woman with lived experience in the third largest | ||||||
| 8 | city in the United States; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson is a wife of a veteran | ||||||
| 10 | with PTSD, and her passion and talent for creating artwork was | ||||||
| 11 | spurred at the Jesse Brown VA Hospital, where she discovered | ||||||
| 12 | Art Therapy as a coping mechanism for stress and a source of | ||||||
| 13 | emotional healing; when she is not creating art, she is a | ||||||
| 14 | licensed barber and cosmetologist; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson uses her art to visually | ||||||
| 16 | portray a wide range of emotions and experience, and she uses | ||||||
| 17 | colors, shapes, lines, and images to communicate powerful | ||||||
| 18 | ideas, feelings, emotions, dreams, and aspirations; her | ||||||
| 19 | mediums of artistic expression are acrylic, oil, watercolor, | ||||||
| 20 | and ordinary things from everyday life; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson seeks to create art that | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | instills hope, universality, and altruism; she is inspired and | ||||||
| 2 | motivated to create by her love for seeing colors come | ||||||
| 3 | together to form abstract paintings; her art style has been | ||||||
| 4 | described as Meditating Art, Abstract Expressionism, | ||||||
| 5 | Expressionism, Modern Art, and Action Painting, and her art is | ||||||
| 6 | appreciated by a wide audience base and has broad appeal; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson is a wife, mother, | ||||||
| 8 | grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and | ||||||
| 9 | friend to many; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Amelia Rucker Thompson will be showcasing her | ||||||
| 11 | artwork at the Center on Halsted at 3656 North Halsted, | ||||||
| 12 | Chicago on October 15, 2021; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 14 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Amelia "ART" Rucker Thompson on her art | ||||||
| 16 | gallery opening at the Center on Halsted, and we wish her the | ||||||
| 17 | best of luck in her future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Amelia Rucker Thompson as an expression of our | ||||||
| 20 | esteem and respect.
