| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Shokry Tawfik, M.D., on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of receiving the 2021 Rural Physician Lifetime of | ||||||
| 5 | Service Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across | ||||||
| 7 | our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural | ||||||
| 8 | settings; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik graduated from Cairo University School | ||||||
| 10 | of Medicine in 1975; he completed his internship at Cairo | ||||||
| 11 | University Hospitals along with his residency from Fayoum | ||||||
| 12 | Chest Hospital before immigrating to the United States, where | ||||||
| 13 | he completed his residency at the University of Illinois | ||||||
| 14 | College of Medicine in Rockford in 1984; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik established his family practice in | ||||||
| 16 | Lena and joined the staff at FHN Memorial Hospital in 1984, | ||||||
| 17 | where he has held various leadership positions through the | ||||||
| 18 | years, including chair of the Family Medicine Department, | ||||||
| 19 | president of the medical staff, chair of the Credentials | ||||||
| 20 | Committee, and chair of the Recruitment and Retention | ||||||
| 21 | Committee; he has also served on the hospital's board of | ||||||
| 22 | directors; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik has consistently shown support for his | ||||||
| 2 | office staff, especially in times of great stress; he has | ||||||
| 3 | hosted dinners for staff at his home in appreciation for the | ||||||
| 4 | care they have provided his patients; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Tawfik's passion to help rural medically | ||||||
| 6 | underserved areas of northwest Illinois has extended outside | ||||||
| 7 | the state, as he is a strong supporter of medical mission trips | ||||||
| 8 | and an active member of the Christian Medical and Dental | ||||||
| 9 | Associates; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, In addition to his service to patients, Dr. | ||||||
| 11 | Tawfik has been an active member of various community | ||||||
| 12 | organizations in Lena and the surrounding areas over the past | ||||||
| 13 | few decades; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we congratulate Shokry Tawfik, M.D., on receiving the 2021 | ||||||
| 17 | Rural Physician Lifetime of Service Award from the Illinois | ||||||
| 18 | Rural Health Association; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That we commend Dr. Tawfik for his compassion, | ||||||
| 20 | his dedication to his patients, and his service in rural | ||||||
| 21 | medicine in northwest Illinois over the past 37 years, and we | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | wish him the best in his retirement; and be it further | ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to Dr. Tawfik as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 4 | respect.
