HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize the 50th anniversary of the 
4passing of Specialist Gary Lee Holian, who died for his 
5country on August 12, 1971; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Specialist Holian was born in Chicago to Joseph 
7R. and Elaine J. Holian on December 8, 1950; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Specialist Holian began his tour in Vietnam on 
9October 23, 1970 as part of the Aero Rifle Platoon, D Troop, 
103rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division 
11and achieved the rank of Specialist Four before the time of his 
12passing; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Specialist Holian received numerous awards for 
14his service, including the Purple Heart Medal, the Combat 
15Infantry Badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with One Service 
16Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense 
17Service Medal; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, Specialist Holian fought bravely for his country 
19in the Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam before he was killed 
20in action by a 122MM rocket that was fired at his helicopter on 
21August 12, 1971; and

1    WHEREAS, Specialist Holian's final resting place is in the 
2Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we recognize the passing of Specialist Gary Lee Holian on the 
650th anniversary of his death and express our sincere 
7gratitude for his service to those who mourn his loss, his 
8family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it 
9further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to the family of Spec. Holian.
