HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Bret Bielema on being
4named the new head coach of the University of Illinois
5football team in December 2020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bret Bielema is the 26th head football coach in
7the 132-year history of the program; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bret Bielema has 24 years of collegiate coaching
9experience and compiled a 12-year record of 97 wins and 58
10losses as head coach at Wisconsin and Arkansas; from 2013 to
112017, he spent five seasons as head coach at Arkansas, where he
12led the team to three consecutive bowl games, including
13victories against Texas in 2014 and Kansas State in 2015; from
142006 to 2012, he led Wisconsin to three Big Ten championships
15(2010-12), six consecutive bowl games, and a 68 and 24 record;
16and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bret Bielema played for and coached under
18Hall-of-Famer Hayden Fry, helping Iowa to a share of the 1990
19Big Ten title with Illinois; after two years as a graduate
20assistant and six seasons as linebacker coach at Iowa, he
21spent two years as co-defensive coordinator at Kansas State
22under Hall-of-Famer Bill Snyder, helping the team win the 2003

1Big 12 Championship; two seasons later, he was named defensive
2coordinator at Wisconsin under Hall-of-Famer Barry Alvarez;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bret Bielema is a native of Prophetstown;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Bret Bielema on being named the new head coach
9of the University of Illinois football team, and we wish him
10many successful seasons ahead; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Bret Bielema as a symbol of our respect and
13esteem.
