2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Bret Bielema on being |
4 | | named the new head coach of the University of Illinois |
5 | | football team in December 2020; and

6 | | WHEREAS, Bret Bielema is the 26th head football coach in |
7 | | the 132-year history of the program; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Bret Bielema has 24 years of collegiate coaching |
9 | | experience and compiled a 12-year record of 97 wins and 58 |
10 | | losses as head coach at Wisconsin and Arkansas; from 2013 to |
11 | | 2017, he spent five seasons as head coach at Arkansas, where he |
12 | | led the team to three consecutive bowl games, including |
13 | | victories against Texas in 2014 and Kansas State in 2015; from |
14 | | 2006 to 2012, he led Wisconsin to three Big Ten championships |
15 | | (2010-12), six consecutive bowl games, and a 68 and 24 record; |

17 | | WHEREAS, Bret Bielema played for and coached under |
18 | | Hall-of-Famer Hayden Fry, helping Iowa to a share of the 1990 |
19 | | Big Ten title with Illinois; after two years as a graduate |
20 | | assistant and six seasons as linebacker coach at Iowa, he |
21 | | spent two years as co-defensive coordinator at Kansas State |
22 | | under Hall-of-Famer Bill Snyder, helping the team win the 2003 |
