2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lillie |
4 | | Florence Goodwin, who passed away on May 21, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin was born to Reverend William M. |
6 | | Connor and Deborah Connor in Michigan City, Indiana on January |
7 | | 28, 1953; she was raised on the south side of Chicago where she |
8 | | attended her father's church, Rust United Methodist Church; |
9 | | she attended Bass Elementary and Englewood High School; she |
10 | | graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Education; |
11 | | and

12 | | WHEREAS, Lillie Goodwin first worked as a teacher with |
13 | | Chicago Public Schools (CPS); she left CPS after two years and |
14 | | worked at Hoechst Pharmaceuticals as a pharmaceutical sales |
15 | | person; she eventually became the midwest director of sales; |
16 | | in 1993, she left Hoechst Pharmaceuticals and, in the spring |
17 | | of 1994, opened The Hyde Park Learning Resource Center; the |
18 | | center educated children after school, provided summer camps, |
19 | | and offered rigorous academic training and unique, enriching |
20 | | trips and activities; it served thousands of children over the |
21 | | last 27 years and left a legacy in the Chicagoland area of |
22 | | well-rounded alumni who attended colleges around the world and |
23 | | achieved their dreams; and
