2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate DeWayne Peevy on being | ||||||
4 | named DePaul University's new Athletic Director on August 24, | ||||||
5 | 2020; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, DeWayne Peevy, an admired and respected leader in | ||||||
7 | collegiate athletics, is the first African American to hold | ||||||
8 | this position; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, DeWayne Peevy has extensive experience in all | ||||||
10 | areas of collegiate athletics, with a special focus on men's | ||||||
11 | basketball; in his 12 years at Kentucky starting in August | ||||||
12 | 2008, which includes the last seven years as the Deputy | ||||||
13 | Director of Athletics, he played a prominent role with key | ||||||
14 | fundraising efforts, strategic planning, and media relations; | ||||||
15 | he served as the liaison to the Southeastern Conference and | ||||||
16 | SEC network offices and oversaw Kentucky men's basketball; | ||||||
17 | additionally, he directly supervised the chief financial | ||||||
18 | officer, the chief revenue office, and executive associate | ||||||
19 | athletics directors for internal and external operations; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, DeWayne Peevy led the creation of the CBS Sports | ||||||
21 | Classic, which started in 2014 and recently signed a | ||||||
22 | three-year extension through 2022; and |

1 | WHEREAS, DeWayne Peevy's 23-year career in collegiate | ||||||
2 | athletics began in media relations; he served as the sports | ||||||
3 | information director for his alma mater, University of | ||||||
4 | Montevallo in Alabama, for three years before becoming the | ||||||
5 | media relations director for the Southeastern Conference | ||||||
6 | Office; he also served on the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball | ||||||
7 | Final Four Media Coordination Committee through the 2013 NCAA | ||||||
8 | Championship; he also spent time as the sports information | ||||||
9 | director representative on the board of the U.S. Basketball | ||||||
10 | Writers Association; and

11 | WHEREAS, DeWayne Peevy is a native of Birmingham, Alabama; | ||||||
12 | he received his bachelor's degree in business administration | ||||||
13 | in accounting from the University of Montevallo and earned his | ||||||
14 | master's degree at the University of Kentucky/University of | ||||||
15 | Louisville Executive MBA program in May 2021; he and his wife, | ||||||
16 | Allison, have two children, Kaitlyn and Braden; therefore, be | ||||||
17 | it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
19 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
20 | we congratulate DeWayne Peevy on being named DePaul | ||||||
21 | University's new Athletic Director, and we wish him many | ||||||
22 | successful years; and be it further
