HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Paul Baumunk on the 
4occasion of the Village of Lindenhurst Veteran's Memorial 
5being rededicated in his name; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam 
7from 1969 to 1970; in Vietnam, he was a personnel specialist in 
8the infantry for U.S. Strategic Command; while overseas, he 
9also volunteered as an English instructor at a girls' high 
10school in Vietnam; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk has been awarded a Bronze Star 
12Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), 
13National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam 
14Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Sharpshooter 
15Marksmanship Badge; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk is a tireless advocate for veterans 
17and their families; he has been an active member of the Lake 
18Villa Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 4308, Lake County 
19Honor Flight, Lake Villa Township Lions Club, and the Lake 
20County Veteran's Assistance Commission; and
  
 
21    WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk founded the first Veterans of

1Foreign Wars Post in Lindenhurst and was later instrumental in 
2merging the Lake Villa and Lindenhurst posts; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk serves as a director on the Lake 
4County Veterans Assistance Commission; he has served on the 
5Commission's executive board since 2018; he also participated 
6in the Lake County Honor Flight in 2018; he has since become 
7active in recruiting other veterans to participate in the 
8program; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk has served as the chairman of the 
10village's Veteran's Committee since 2006 and spearheaded the 
11construction of the memorial; he still serves as the 
12committee's chair and coordinates and hosts veterans' events 
13on behalf of the village; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Paul Baumunk served as mayor of Lindenhurst from 
151991 to 2003; he is an active member of St. Mark's Church in 
16Lindenhurst; he was also a shop teacher at the Lake County Tech 
17Campus at the College of Lake County for 31 years; therefore, 
18be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
21we congratulate Paul Baumunk  on the occasion of the Village of 
22Lindenhurst Veteran's Memorial being renamed the Paul Baumunk

1Veteran's Memorial; and be it further
  
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
3presented to Paul Baumunk as a symbol of our esteem and 
4respect.
