2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Dale Mitchell, Ph.D., on |
4 | | the occasion of his retirement as superintendent of Homewood |
5 | | School District 153; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell grew up in Grant Park; he earned his |
7 | | bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Illinois State University; |
8 | | and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell first taught in a rural district in |
10 | | central Illinois; he then took a position at a middle school in |
11 | | Hanover Park, where he taught under a groundbreaking team |
12 | | teaching approach; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell has worked for Homewood School |
14 | | District 153 for 27 years; he first worked as the assistant |
15 | | principal of James Hart School, where he assisted the school's |
16 | | transition from a junior high school to a middle school in |
17 | | 1994; he became the principal of James Hart School, and his |
18 | | leadership helped the district earn a Blue Ribbon Award; he |
19 | | served as assistant superintendent of the district for three |
20 | | years before becoming superintendent in August 2003; during |
21 | | his 18-year tenure, his foresight and grounding in the |
22 | | community helped ensure the passage of two educational funding |

1 | | referendums with over 80 percent of the vote, which maintained |
2 | | crucial programs and services for students; he guided the |
3 | | district through the COVID-19 pandemic with reassuring |
4 | | positivity and steady resolve, which were key to the school |
5 | | district's consistency in education and compassionate support |
6 | | of students, staff, and families; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell is widely recognized as an |
8 | | outstanding educational leader; he received the Those Who |
9 | | Excel Award of Excellence from the Illinois State Board of |
10 | | Education in 2017; he earned the title of Superintendent of |
11 | | Distinction by the Illinois Association of School |
12 | | Administrators in 2019; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell has proven himself to be an |
14 | | incredible educator, advocate, mentor, leader, and educational |
15 | | visionary; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mitchell is married to Dayna; they have two |
17 | | daughters, Michaela and Camryn; therefore, be it
|
18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
19 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
20 | | we congratulate Dale Mitchell, Ph.D., on the occasion of his |
21 | | retirement, recognize his commitment to the students and staff |
22 | | of Homewood School District 153, and wish him all the best in |
