2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to commend the Metropolis Rotary Club for | ||||||
4 | the organization's 100 years of service to both the community | ||||||
5 | and the world; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club was sponsored by the | ||||||
7 | Paducah Kentucky Club in May 1921 and organized under the | ||||||
8 | sponsorship of the Paducah Rotary Club on September 01, 1921; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club follows the objectives | ||||||
11 | of Rotary International, including the development of | ||||||
12 | acquaintance as an opportunity for service, high ethical | ||||||
13 | standards in business and professions, the recognition of the | ||||||
14 | worthiness of all useful occupations, and dignifying each | ||||||
15 | Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; the | ||||||
16 | club's application of the ideal of service is displayed in | ||||||
17 | each Rotarian's personal, business, and community lives, and | ||||||
18 | through the advancement of international understanding, | ||||||
19 | goodwill, and peace; and

20 | WHEREAS, From its inception, the Metropolis Rotary Club | ||||||
21 | began community service projects, including the construction | ||||||
22 | of Dorothy Miller Park on May 30, 1970; and

1 | WHEREAS, To expand service opportunities, the Metropolis | ||||||
2 | Rotary Club sponsored the formation of the Route 45 extension | ||||||
3 | to Metropolis, the first hard road, in 1923; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club has also supported | ||||||
5 | communities across the United States and around the world by | ||||||
6 | supporting the global Polio Eradication Initiative; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club continues to live the | ||||||
8 | Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" by acknowledging | ||||||
9 | outstanding high school students with scholarships, donating | ||||||
10 | to school programs, and contributing to drug prevention | ||||||
11 | activities, after-school literacy projects, and multiple other | ||||||
12 | service projects benefiting the community; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The Metropolis Rotary Club has continued to meet | ||||||
14 | during the COVID-19 pandemic under social distancing | ||||||
15 | guidelines, ensuring a consistent line of communication with | ||||||
16 | members and the community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
18 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we commend the Metropolis Rotary Club on 100 years of service | ||||||
20 | to the community and the world; and be it further

1 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
2 | presented to the Metropolis Rotary Club as an expression of | ||||||
3 | our respect and esteem.
