2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives would like to recognize the workers of the | ||||||
4 | restaurant and food service industry for their tireless | ||||||
5 | efforts during the past year and a half during the COVID-19 | ||||||
6 | Pandemic; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, 2020 and 2021 have presented a very difficult set | ||||||
8 | of challenges for those who work in the restaurant and food | ||||||
9 | service industry; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Many restaurants have had to shut their doors to | ||||||
11 | the general public and send their dedicated workers home | ||||||
12 | without the chance of getting a paycheck; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Restaurants and food service has had to adapt to | ||||||
14 | the situation and adopt new ways to make their food available | ||||||
15 | for carry out and delivery; these changes left those who work | ||||||
16 | as hosts, hostesses, waiters, and waitresses without a means | ||||||
17 | to earn a paycheck from their place of business; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, With an ever-increasing number of people being | ||||||
19 | vaccinated, things are starting to improve, and restaurants | ||||||
20 | and food services are starting to open their doors to the | ||||||
21 | general public to allow people to eat inside; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The problem that restaurants and food service now | ||||||
2 | face is not the lack of customers but rather the lack of | ||||||
3 | workers to operate their businesses; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Restaurants and food services in Illinois and | ||||||
5 | across the country are facing a staffing shortage crisis that | ||||||
6 | impacts every level of their industry; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Without proper staffing, restaurants and food | ||||||
8 | services are overwhelmed with orders and customers, resulting | ||||||
9 | in a delay in product output to match the customer volume; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Acknowledging the difficult times our service | ||||||
11 | industry faces and practicing patience when going to a | ||||||
12 | restaurant will ease the transition back to normal; therefore, | ||||||
13 | be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
15 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
16 | we declare the week of May 10 to 14, 2021 as "Restaurant Worker | ||||||
17 | Appreciation Week" in the State of Illinois to recognize those | ||||||
18 | workers who have been working since the very first day of the | ||||||
19 | pandemic and those who continue to work through the | ||||||
20 | difficulties of understaffing.
