| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Brent Paterson, Ph.D., on | ||||||
| 4 | the occasion of his retirement as chief of staff and assistant | ||||||
| 5 | to the president of Illinois State University; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Paterson earned his Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
| 7 | Elementary Education from Lambuth University in Jacksonville, | ||||||
| 8 | Tennessee in 1979; he obtained his Master of Science in | ||||||
| 9 | Counseling & Personnel Services from the University of Memphis | ||||||
| 10 | in Memphis, Tennessee in 1982; he earned his Ph.D. in Higher | ||||||
| 11 | Education Administration from the University of Denver in | ||||||
| 12 | Denver, Colorado in 1986; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Prior to Illinois State University, Dr. Paterson | ||||||
| 14 | served in Student Affairs at Texas A&M University for nearly | ||||||
| 15 | 17 years; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Paterson came to Illinois State University in | ||||||
| 17 | 2001; he initially served as senior associate vice president | ||||||
| 18 | for Student Affairs from April 2001 to March 2014, where he | ||||||
| 19 | oversaw the Bone Student Center, Braden Auditorium, Campus | ||||||
| 20 | Dining Services, Campus Recreation, the Student Fitness | ||||||
| 21 | Center, University Housing Services, and University Police; he | ||||||
| 22 | also served as a clinical assistant professor in Educational | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | Foundations and Administration; he was named interim vice | ||||||
| 2 | president for Student Affairs in March 2014 and served in that | ||||||
| 3 | capacity until June 2016; he served as assistant to the | ||||||
| 4 | president from July 2016 until his retirement; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Paterson has received a number of accolades | ||||||
| 6 | during his career in higher education; he was recognized for | ||||||
| 7 | outstanding contributions to the quality of life for students | ||||||
| 8 | with Illinois State University's Neal R. Gamsky Award in 2011 | ||||||
| 9 | and named a Pillar of the Profession of Student Affairs | ||||||
| 10 | Administrators in Higher Education by the National Association | ||||||
| 11 | of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) in 2015; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Paterson is known for keeping the needs of | ||||||
| 13 | students at the forefront of his decisions and for his | ||||||
| 14 | commitment to doing his utmost to enhance the college | ||||||
| 15 | experience through his leadership, mentorship, or the | ||||||
| 16 | development of his staff; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 19 | we congratulate Brent Paterson, Ph.D., on the occasion of his | ||||||
| 20 | retirement, and we recognize his commitment to Illinois State | ||||||
| 21 | University; and be it further
| ||||||
| 22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
