2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate John Spiros Jr. on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his retirement from Painters District Council #14; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. was initiated into Painters | ||||||
7 | District Council #14, Local Union #147, as an apprentice in | ||||||
8 | August 1976; he completed his apprentice program and worked in | ||||||
9 | the field until he accepted a teaching/painting instructor | ||||||
10 | position at Washburne Trade School in 1981; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. received his teaching | ||||||
12 | certification for the Chicago Board of Education from Chicago | ||||||
13 | State University in 1984; he earned his Bachelor of Arts in | ||||||
14 | Occupational Education in May 1986; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. continued working as an | ||||||
16 | instructor until 1990 when he accepted a position as a | ||||||
17 | business representative at Painters District Council #14, | ||||||
18 | which he held from 1990 to 2015; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, During his time as a business representative, | ||||||
20 | John Spiros Jr. served as a trustee on the Painters and Drywall | ||||||
21 | Apprenticeship Committee from 1991 to 2015; he has served as a |

| |||||||
1 | delegate for the Chicago and Cook County Building Trades | ||||||
2 | Council since 1990; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. was elected business | ||||||
4 | manager/secretary-treasurer of Painters District Council #14 | ||||||
5 | in June 2015; during his tenure, he served as a trustee for the | ||||||
6 | Chicago Painters Health and Welfare Fund; he serves as a | ||||||
7 | member on the executive boards of the Chicago Federation of | ||||||
8 | Labor and the Chicago Cook County Building and Construction | ||||||
9 | Trades; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. was also very active with Local | ||||||
11 | Union #147, where he served as a trustee and president; he was | ||||||
12 | also a delegate to District Council #14, Central Regional | ||||||
13 | Conference State Painters, and Building Trades in Washington; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John Spiros Jr. will spend his retirement with | ||||||
16 | his wife, Mariellen, and they plan to spend many days at their | ||||||
17 | log home in Wisconsin; therefore, be it
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
19 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
20 | we congratulate John Spiros Jr. on his retirement from | ||||||
21 | Painters District Council #14, commend him for his 45 years of | ||||||
22 | service, and thank him for his contributions to organized |

1 | labor; and be it further
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to John Spiros Jr. as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
4 | respect.
