2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Theotha |
4 | | Lane, who passed away on April 6, 2021; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was born in Inverness, Mississippi |
6 | | to Marion Sr. and Francis Lane on August 15, 1947; he was a |
7 | | member of Holy Grove Church and attended Gentry Elementary |
8 | | School; his family relocated to Chicago, where he graduated |
9 | | from John Marshall High School; he married Mary Lane on August |
10 | | 29, 1977, and they shared 41 years of marriage with a blended |
11 | | family of seven children; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Theotha Lane worked at Courtesy Food, Daniel's |
13 | | Country, and Johnnie's; he also worked for General Motors and |
14 | | then at Chatham Foods; he later worked at County Fair, where he |
15 | | retired as a produce manager; he owned a grocery store on the |
16 | | West Side of Chicago, created "Honey Do" Delivery Services, |
17 | | and was known as DJ "Hangout Daddy" on the West and South Sides |
18 | | of Chicago for over 30 years; and

19 | | WHEREAS, Theotha Lane attended Prince of Peace Missionary |
20 | | Baptist Church, where he served as a choir member with the Male |
21 | | Choir; he later joined the Everlasting Love Outreach Ministry, |
22 | | where he served as a deacon and chairman; and |
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was affectionately known as |
2 | | "Rooster"; he enjoyed being a Precinct Captain in the 16th |
3 | | Ward and had a heart for service and a love for people; he |
4 | | enjoyed singing songs by The Canton Spirituals and The |
5 | | Williams Brothers and was an avant gardener with a beautiful |
6 | | green thumb; he loved playing double fifteen dominoes with his |
7 | | brother Arthur and his brother-in-law Eldridge; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Theotha Lane was preceded in death by his |
9 | | sisters, Sara, Beulah, Carrie, Sue, and Mae Emma; his |
10 | | brothers, Marion Jr., Jimmy, Clinton, and Louis; his |
11 | | granddaughter, Brianna Jenkins; and his grandson, Dwayne |
12 | | Jones; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Theotha Lane is survived by his children, Abigail |
14 | | (Elliot) Lagrone, Verleaner Lane, Dwayne (Adela) Jones, |
15 | | Camille Lane, Mary F. Lane-Jenkins, Leslie Harris, and Tommie |
16 | | Harris; his brothers, Arthur (Margie) Lane and Rev. Leonard |
17 | | (Amy) Lane; his brothers-in-law, Eldridge Glover and Kenneth |
18 | | (Loretta) Byest; his sisters-in-law, LaVern Lane, Carolyn |
19 | | Lane, Linda Lane, Linda (Saul) Nutall, Odean Burks, and Bobbie |
20 | | (Zeb) Hinds; his 12 grandchildren and eight |
21 | | great-grandchildren; his Godson, Renaldo Moore; his special |
22 | | daughter, TiChina Barrett; numerous nieces, nephews, family, |
23 | | and friends; and his dog, Rusty; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
2 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
3 | | we mourn the passing of Theotha Lane and extend our sincere |
4 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
5 | | him; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Theotha Lane as an expression of our |
8 | | deepest sympathy.
