HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to recognize Aviv Ezra on the occasion of 
4his retirement as Consul General of Israel to the Midwest; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra was born in Israel to an Israeli 
6diplomat and a teacher in 1972; he served in the Israel Defense 
7Forces, where he achieved the rank of captain; he received his 
8Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from 
9Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel; and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra joined Israel's Foreign Ministry in 
111999; he served as the economic and commercial attaché to 
12Cairo, Egypt from 2000 to 2002; he served as the deputy consul 
13general for the Southeastern region of the U.S. at the 
14Consulate General of Israel in Atlanta, Georgia from 2002 to 
152006; he was appointed as a policy advisor to the director 
16general of the Foreign Ministry in 2006; after serving five 
17years as Israel's liaison to the U.S. Congress, he was 
18appointed as counselor in the Foreign Ministry's North America 
19Division Congressional Affairs Department in 2013; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra was appointed as Consul General of 
21Israel to the Midwest based in Chicago in 2016 and was 
22responsible for nine Midwestern states, including Illinois,

1Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, 
2South Dakota, and Wisconsin; and
  
 
3    WHEREAS, During his five-year tenure, Aviv Ezra oversaw a 
4number of developments in Israeli-United States relations, 
5including Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University joining 
6the University of Illinois in the Discovery Partners Institute 
7(DPI), the implementation of the NATAL Model for trauma 
8resiliency in Bronzeville, the signing of a memorandum of 
9understanding (MOU) between the City of Chicago and the Peres 
10Center for Peace and Innovation in 2019, the launch of a 
11non-stop flight route between Chicago O'Hare Airport and Tel 
12Aviv Ben Gurion in September 2020, the partnership of Mt. 
13Sinai Chicago Hospital and Shamir Medical Center, co-leading 
14the Chicago-Israel Healthtech Summit alongside the digital 
15health hub MATTER and the Sheba Medical Center, and many more 
16too numerous to mention; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra is married to Einat, and they have 
18three children; therefore, be it
  
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
20HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
21we recognize Aviv Ezra on his retirement as Consul General of 
22Israel to the Midwest, and we commend him for his years of 
23service to Israel-United States relations; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
2presented to Aviv Ezra as an expression of our esteem and 
3respect.
